Today known as Smithfield Meat Market, this site has been the location of the butchery of both animals and humans since the Middle Ages. It was the favorite site for the executions ordered by Bloody Mary. However, arguably the most famous execution was of William Wallace, and Sinead will take you there.

I have just stumbled upon this channel today, and as a lifelong Anglophile and British history nerd, I am loving it! Subscribed. As for video ideas, I have a few: 1) I am quite the Arthurian fanatic, so any videos around that topic would be wonderful. 2) I would love to see a tour of the remnants of Roman London (Londinium). 3) A Tudor tour would be fantastic as well, as it is a very popular topic. It’s amazing how much of the Tudor reign is still with us today. 4) A tour of King’s Road (with its history of birthing the punk movement). 5) And finally, a tour of the Great Fire would be nice, as you have touched on it in videos here and there. Throw in a little of Nell Gwyn and you have yourself quite the story! Thanks again for making all of these videos for those of us who live vicariously through them. Keep up the good work!

Hi, I had a hand in the renovations of Smithfield which I think was in the late 90’s, early 2000’s (?). The first phase was opened by the Queen’s Mother upon completion. If I remember rightly there is at least three underground levels to Smithfield which had its own railway station once I was told and there is a winding road by that park for access to these levels. I’m a welder and we fitted the new steelwork, some of the original cast ironwork was removed and I believe one of the managers ended up with some of the columns which he used at his home (?). A very fascinating building of which I’m proud to have had a hand in its history.

Sinead you have a lovely, easy to listen to voice. So often I've had to turn off a doco or such because of the grating narrator. I love traveling and learning and you've made both possible without having to get out of my jim jams... or endure the 24+he flight from Oz. I'm a History tragic and absorb what l can, looking at the buildings and History of the Mayfair tour was amazing, you can imagine an Aussie's amazement when your buildings are 5 x older than our established country. Binging my way through yr tours 🎅💜🌲

Drawn was not dragging through the streets. It refers to the act of drawing his intestines out of his body. In England this act whether practiced on humans or animals has always been known as drawing
