As a pro sound man, your videos, and this one in particular, are the perfect travelogues for me. Really interesting locations and great sound. One suggestion is lower the music level by about 6 or 8 dB because I always have your videos turned up so I can hear all the ambience nuances. Then the music comes in and I have rush to turn it down.

The DPA mics sound so natural, and no self noise--- definitely impressive, and it doesn't look like you have fur in your ear either ! :) Great video and audio as always!! can you get a 3.5 mm option so they can be used with hand held recorders that have PIP inputs as well? Love the fact there's literally zero cable noise--- for your use, these are clearly superior! Great investment, and agree, the Zoom F3 would work great with these, you're going to love that recorder, it's amazingly small and uses the same pre-amps---- you will be impressed. Can't wait to hear the back pack vs in ear recording comparisons---!!!

Hi Michael! Thank you again for watching and we start filming this video on Tuesday. About the adapter, check out the DAD6034 but tha only works for one microphone so you would need an adapter that somehow has two inputs and one output for the recorder. I'm not sure if that is around but check out the MMA-A Digital Audio Interface (MMA-A) which could be connected to a mobile phone.

Very impressed that there's no handling noise when you walk through various places. This is a great mic for unobtrusive and covert recording when there are people around and you don't want to attract attention w/a boom mic and sound bag. It has a rich full sound coming from a lav-looking mic.

Hi, pardon my english, I'm french :) Can you please tell us what settings you do on your Zoom F6 to have a binaural result ? Do you set a stereo track from your two mics inputs or do you do another setting and get the binaural result later on reaper or other ? Because for me setting the Pan after on Reaper is really not giving the binaural result of the scene i thought i was recording. Last question : do you have height stereo also with this (meaning you can hear if someone is above or below your head in addition of the left and right position and distance that you have with "stereo but non binaural" mics ? Thank you so much in advance because i really dont know how to set my two 6060 mics in my ears with my Zoom F6 to have a binaural result... and I guess I'm not the only one :)

I've been researching microphones a lot lately and DPA are becoming the most desired brand for me. Really really good quality and even though they seem to be most well known for their lavalier microphones all of their shotgun/condenser mics are world class also. These binaurals look interesting but I would be concerned about picking up breathing noises especially for me since I sound like a water buffalo on a treadmill when I pretty much just stand still.
@FreeToUseSounds2 жыл бұрын
Oh yes they pick that up but you could make a breathing sound library recorded in different locations and activities :)
@kfx132 жыл бұрын
It's really great how the dpa is doing. It's also interesting that you face the main action. In my experience, and what the science says, you can't tell the difference between the front and the back in terms of hearing perspective very well. So especially if you don't have a visual reference. Does it perhaps make more sense, also because of your sound library, to turn sideways or at least somewhat obliquely to the main action? Maybe the Ambeo VR has the advantage, insofar as you can choose afterwards in which angle you stand to the heard. At the same time, I don't think it's as good at close range as a binaural mic. Maybe that would be worth a comparison? Looking forward very much to your mic comparison test!

Incredible sound, zero handling noise. thanks for making this. One thing I did not think about is that camera placement affects how the audio should be played. For example, at 9:10, the white van passed from left to right for the viewer, but the audio played from right to left. Would need to flip the tracks depending on how you want the viewer to perceive the sound. What post-editing / adjustments were done for the recordings in this video?
@FreeToUseSounds8 ай бұрын
Oh let me re-listen because I thought we flipped the audio. This is a very easy process. Audition has an option to flip the audio but you can also manually cut out the tracks and create a new track and flip the audio. Other adjustments? Hmm I always try to keep the recordings as they are and don't do any adjustments besides normalizing in some situations.

i have the DPA 4560 & Zoom F3 but trying to figure correct way to record/upload to for youtube. In the zoom f3, under file format, is it better to record in "Mono" or "Stereo"? And for the left and right side inputs, I currently have Source as "Mic +48V". Or is supposed to be "Line +48V" Any clarification is appreciated! I enjoy your videos! Thanks
@FreeToUseSounds Жыл бұрын
Hi! Oh you want to have stereo selected. Otherwise you only record two mono tracks which I assume you don’t want. Having it at 48 V Mic is correct. These microphones need phantom power. If you like to know the difference do A quick google search about “Differences between Line and Mic”
With 4560, your footspep has to be gently. Otherwise body muscle vibration will cause a kind of heartbeat like low freq pulses.

So glad to hear that you enjoyed the video. We actually got many emails wanting us to do more walking videos. Maybe we can make one or two a month? What do you think?
@Metamerist6252 жыл бұрын
@@FreeToUseSounds Yeah, I think there is a lot of mileage to the idea and you guys would be the right people to explore it further. An idea for you: The thing that interests me most about the binaural recording is capturing the transition from one sound space to another...... that was why I had the idea to record in the London underground because there are very interesting transitions from the sounds on the street to the platforms and then the train journey itself (obviously any underground train system has potential, I am just using London for example). Personally I want to do something that takes the listener on a short journey with just sound. No doubt that concept could be applied to lots of places in the world though. For instance walking from inside the printing factory you guys visted to (say) the street outside. Perhaps this is difficult to get right though. I am still learning about levels etc and moving from one place to another but choosing settings that work for both locations may take some thought and planning...... maybe it can be recorded in one take, maybe multiple takes are needed that can be blended later... (?) I am still watching videos and getting advice. As the professionals though maybe you guys can pull it off? :-D Anyway, I will be interested to hear what you guys do as maybe you have even more ideas! 🙂

May I kindly ask if you could double check the audio orientation of your headphones? The sound of the motorbike serves as a helpful indicator as it comes from the right and left on the left side. Edit: To clarify, the people chatting were indeed recorded on the right side, but we didn't flip the audio to picture since it's the same recording. I apologize for any confusion.

Scared the crap out of me at 12:12 with my AirPods in my head haha! Unbelievably immersive. I'd love to hear what it sounds like listening to a busker, conversations with someone etc.

love your video! can this be used on a Rode Wireless Pro via an adaptor?
@FreeToUseSounds5 ай бұрын
Hi! Oh you need phantom power for these microphones.

@@FreeToUseSounds thanks! Was thinking about connect dpa 4560->f3->wireless pro but thought if I can connect directly dpa 4560->wireless pro it would be convenient operationally. I read online that the voltage on wireless pro (3.7v) is lower than the needed voltage on dpa 4560 (5v) therefore having to ask a pro like you. Thanks for the advice.

@@justinqian990 Happy to help! One idea is to look for a transmitter that allows microdot connections and provides 48v phantom power. I think Sennheiser has something like that. Then, you could plug the transmitter into an F3. I'll do some research, but you might need two transmitters, which could increase the cost significantly. Also, consider whether carrying two transmitters vs just carrying one F3.
@justinqian9905 ай бұрын
@@FreeToUseSounds you are right. It’d probably best to still use the f3 :)

How are you connecting the DPA to the zoom recorder?

With the DPA XLR connectors. You have to purchase them separate. There is a link in the description.
