for photography I would get a regular ND filter not a variable ND. Variable are also polarizers and can mess with the light where a regular ND filter will not as much.

I have a newbie question. I usually get the ND filters with CPL, something about cutting out glares as well. Will these have CPL on them?

Variable ND are CPL by nature. A variable ND is two CPL filters back to back so as you rotate the strength of the polarization increases and filters out more light.

You also can’t stack a CPL with a VND. It needs to be a fixed ND.

Do you know how the freewell mist is compared to the tiffen Mist filter? Is it more like the 1/4 or 1/8?

It's closer to the 1/4 than the 1/8 as far as diffusion goes

HI Jake, I know this variable we are talking about in this video, but in the case of the regular nd filters, which numbers would you recommend? (Looking at Freewell's 3 pack but can't decide on which ones to choose)... Or would you say skip it and just go with the variable nd? Freewell didn't provide a discount code? 😭

I recommend 4, 8 and 16. that will take care of most situations. occasionally you might find you need 32 but that is not as often. Cheers!
