My victoria agaves were damaged here in San Antonio. Zone 8b/9a. I have three of them. Our temps had been in the 80s a week prior, many plants were not dormant. It got down to +9 F degrees. We had ice and snow, then melting snow and refreeze. We basically had 6 days where it didn't get above freezing. The victoria agaves are about 2/3 burnt. They were in a bit of a protected spot and hidden by some rosemary. I purchased my victoria agaves from a mail order in New Mexico. I did find it strange that my victoria agaves were damaged. Many other plants were not. Great video by the way.

February 2nd , 2011 had record cold temperatures in Las Cruces , New Mexico, where this was filmed. It was as cold as -5 f, which is minus five Fahrenheit, which is the same as five below zero Fahrenheit, which is equal to -22.55 C , which is minus twenty two Celsius. The wind chill factor was much colder, about minus twenty five Fahrenheit. The temperature in some parts of the area were as low as minus ten Fahrenheit. ~ I’m very surprised that many of these plants survived.

My yucca and oleanders died. Small yucca lived. My 2 were 6' up the street in a doorway there is still a nice yucca that has the flower??? Still on top. Guess the entrance shielded it. Think I will just plant some plastic trees this time. LOL. Wait, probably be a super scorcher this summer and those will melt.

Hello. Do you ever come to Alamogordo. I would be interested to see what you could tell me about my Saguaro. It seemed perfect at first and now is dying. I don't know if it has to do with the environment or other. Thanks.

He was saying -5 F, another idea is an edison style light bulb under a heat resistant blanket since 60% of the energy of the bulb is heat.

-5C not F (5 below freezing). O is freezing in celcius. Soo that would be 23F.

@@greengreeneya2102 nope, he meant -5F.

@@chinesenoodles8005 Nope He meant -5C. -5F is -21C. All these plants would be dead. None of these plants can survive temperatures that low.

@@greengreeneya2102 This is in Las Cruces NM, where it regularly gets -7 pretty much every winter, and these plants can easily handle -5 without a scratch. remember this is zone 8a in whihc the average annual low is around -10 to -12C. This event happened in 2011 and you can look it up it got down to -5F, like he said in the video.

😭 I'm wondering if you could possibly help me. I'm in Northeast Texas. We just went through a freeze for a week. My monstrasa is on a covered deck against the house in between a 4-foot potted firestick, and large pot of lady slipper. All three plants took a hit. But my Monstrasa/Totempole looks like it's melted. It's so tender to the touch now. The very first 6 inches from the ground is more firm than the top but it is more tender than normal as well. Is it possible to save it? My Hope Is that the bass and the roots are still viable and may recover and throw up a new poll. But the pot it's in is about 10 inches deep and two feet around. I'm afraid it needs to be in a bigger pot to generate a whole new Pole? I'm also fearful of even touching it right now. Could you help? Is there anything I can do to assist in it's recovery. I get the whole no watering it. I also get the whole removing the dead tissue. But exactly how do I do that? Just keep taking off the mushy Parts until it's not mushy anymore? Then of course cross my fingers and hope for the best? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for the video. It's giving me a little bit of Hope. And a little pop to my bubble is well. Again thank you.

@@nmsuaces Thank you so much. They're trying to find me a Master Gardener now. I am still so broken-hearted. But I am very glad that our family and home are safe.

It was minus five Fahrenheit, which is five below zero Fahrenheit on February second, 2011 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where this was filmed. It set a record for cold temperatures in that area.
