i thought i would post a comment to explain - jd's dad is indeed the green construction worker (while his mom is blue, making a cyan child. color jokes!). but what he did wasn't on purpose, or due to malicious intent (jd's mom walked in knowing what would happen). i wanted to frame the flashback so it was in the perspective of jd, who resents his dad and would most likely only remember his comfort food (the slushie) in a traumatic situation. tldr: jd's dad leaving a slushie / not bothering to talk to jd is more symbolic than literal. communication is important kids
