Bernie is the most selfless, caring, principled, consistent, honest, and hard working politician with an impeccable work ethic. He's so honest even if it means hurting his own ambitions. He's not one for seeking praises or recognition for his accomplishments. He's the most popular congressman in the U.S. for a reason. For example, while most of congress went back home for long periods, he stayed in Washington (since the beginning of the pandemic) to get a monthly stimulus bill passed for working families. Unfortunately, he was sidelined every time by a Republican dominated congress and the Demon Administration. While Bernie had a heart attack during his campaign, he was tweeting about Medicare For All in his hospital bed as if he didn't care about his own life. On a historical note: Bernie marched with Dr. MLK during the civil rights marches, with the women's movement, joined gay rights protests and marched in pride parades, protest with the teacher's union, protests with the nurses union, supports the electrical and pipeline union. He was the only politician who stood in freezing temperatures along side Native Americans at standing rock protesting the Keystone Pipeline (which thankfully Biden just pulled the plug on by executive order) despite being 79 yrs old. He started National Arbor Day before it had a name by planting trees along major roads every year while he was mayor of Burlington, Vermont. Opened summer camp for children of low income families. Got more federal money for Veterans, their families, and expanded medical benefits. These are some highlights from just half of his career. Most of the Democratic Party's policies in the last 12 yrs were shaped and adopted from Bernie's policy proposals and vision for the working class. He comes off as curmudgeon but he's a sweet soul that most sane people would enjoy having a fascinating chat over some hot-chocolate, next to a fireplace, while leaving you inspired. To me Bernie is a national treasure and by reading comments from people all over the world for the past 8 yrs, he's bordering on being an international treasure. Challenge: Find a politician on the opposite side of the political spectrum that comes close to Bernie. Good luck, because you'll need it.

In my lifetime I can honestly say we had four great men in office Eisenhower, Kennedy, Carter and Bernie. Eisenhower for WW II, and his advice about the military industrial complex, Kennedy for initiating the Civil Rights Act, Carter for his refusal to start a war with Iran in order to remain in office despite it costing him the election, and his work with habitat for humanity. Bernie for always putting the American people first, and his stance on civil rights since his early days of protesting.
