It's a firewood day at our homestead. All the wood we did this day is for next winter. We will keep at it until the sheds are full again!

Its good to see the boys helping their dad getting firewood growing up we made a family day of it my grandpa uncles dad cousins and myself and the girls would clean house then meet at grandma and grandpas and bring us lunch and coffee and hot chocolate then go back and cook a huge family meal for supper we did that about 4 weekends cutting 2cord per household and it got us through the winter

Splitting logs by hand is very demanding work. At age 68 I no longer have the strength to do that. My wife gave me a simple log splitting device for Christmas which requires less effort but still does a nice job of reducing log chunks to firewood. Nice to see your boys helping dad with the chores.

I’d like him to use one to save his back but, “He splits a lot faster than a splitter.” Haha… I get it but I’m thinking long term let’s save our bodies!

Do I ever remember. Washington State had early, long winters with mild temps but we still burned 4 cord of Alder (quick burn with low heat). When things got really cold I kept Madrona on hand which burned like coal (blue flame and all.) Love watching your videos. Thanks for sharing.

@axesandaprons " MEN " LOL maybe another way of looking at the splitting wood, would be to load rounds onto the side by side, take them to the storage bins, have the log splitter beside the bins, as splitting take the rounds off the side by side....the boys stack as Ben splits !
