I built a 351m in shop class with a bb c6 and divorced transfercase. 456 gears with 8" of luft with 38" monster mudders. Manual brakes and manual brakes. Scary to drive but it was my baby.

Dad had one of these throughout my childhood and adolescence. Automatic, 2wd, optional 2 extra gas tanks in the bed - for some reason I remember him saying his model was meant for putting campers on the bed. He did the 390 swap, too. I learned to drive in that truck. Would buy another any chance I get.
@account4info7 жыл бұрын
That era of truck, the gas rode inside the cab with you. So you could be soaked and burned to death in an accident. If the tanks were under the bed, they were moved there or it was a newer truck than this one.
@RobotJustice7 жыл бұрын
account4info It had the stock tank in the back of the cab, just like the one in this video. It also had 2 tanks built to match the profile of the wheel well in (not under) the bed. If I bought one of these today, I'd definitely be installing an aftermarket tank.

Quick notes on that truck. It’s a wrong bed in the early 60s they used 58-60 beds on the new trucks to get them out of the factory. The battery was in the floor in the heavy duty trucks. Fenders are from a 65-66 heavy duty 61-64 the emblem was on the hood not the fender Gauge package is from a 61-64 Grill is 65 only 61-64 had park lights and 66 had a v in the top portion I have a 1964 m100 mercury 2 we long box and I love it.

1st car I ever drove was a late 70's Dodge Ram. American trucks got no gas mileage back then. Your Highboy probably maneuvered better then this old gal though. this thing makes me miss the old 72 two wheel drive no budget Jimmy that I put together with a couple of my relatives when I was younger. In all we had around 2000 or less spent on the vehicle and say it was a Frankenstein would be being polite. Only actual new parts that we used was a complete replaced exhaust system which believe it or not cost under $150 at the time what I put in it for a radio most people would consider disturbing in and of itself but I wasn't very concerned about radio LOL. Had a portable battery operated radio from the dollar store or something like that and a cassette deck unit that the radio didn't work which we shoved in the - to fill the hole with a speaker in the glove box. I just never got around to putting a proper radio on the thing. Only other new components that we used was a brand-new break master cylinder new brake lines and if memory serves me we put new brake pads on it one new brake caliper and there's probably a few brake parts I'm forgetting. If you want to be technical the carburetor we used was new old stock it was a carburetor somebody had bought in the early 70s and it had remained in the box where the carburetor never got picked up by the customer and was sitting with boxes of on open parts in a guy storage unit I think we paid $20 for the curb raider. The tailgate was a aftermarket replacement tailgate that was about a month old when the guy rolled his truck and I think I paid 50 bucks for it. Everything else that I can remember came off of various vehicles and firmer's fields and junkyards down in the countryside if I listed everything that was put on that 72 people would be questioning how much was left of the original 1972 other than the frame and the papers LOL. It was the last of the full convertible series with lap belts and I should point out the truck had no seatbelts when I got it and it also had no seats seats and seatbelts came out of other vehicles also bought a couple of gauges that was the other thing I was forgetting we paid like $35 for a couple of aftermarket gauges. And we put a complete gasket kit on the engine and a new timing chain. In all we spent like I said 2000 or less on it and the thing looked like something straight out of a zombie apocalypse movie painted it with black commercial paint I don't think I've got a picture of the thing and he wears. Mainly painted it to prevent it from rusting further. Trust me the paint didn't do anything to make it look any better LOL. Even the tires I used on it were leftovers where somebody had changed tires and they were pretty beefy off-road tires that we crammed on it that lasted beyond the using the vehicle. Don't think I'd ever be able to get away with building another vehicle like that for nearly that cheep with the way everybody is overvaluing those old parts now.everything I used was stuff that people would've taken in for scrap were talking about stuff that was laying Abandoned him back roads and fields with trees growing through it and stuff like that. The engine bonnet grill front bumper back bumper steering column Injun the plastic dash cover steering wheel rearview mirrors brake lights driveshaft transmission the engine itself and the windshield all came from different vehicles or piles of vehicle parts laying in junk files in different places. I lost track of how many times we tried changing the hinges for the engine bonnet and were never able to find a set that let the engine bonnet sit down properly old time I had the truck. Like I said the thing looked like something from a mad Max type movie and probably gave people nightmares to see it coming up in their rearview mirror especially with that almost straight pipe exhaust which gave it that nice Godzilla roar even when you would just start the thing up. I think at one point we put a new starter on it and a new water pop. I still are member the thing making a couple of interesting noises each time you turn the key followed by this God awful screaming wondering roar as if the entire vehicle was going to explode and then that noise just getting louder as you push the gas pedal after putting it in gear. Was a 350 small block supposedly out of a 1960s GTO basically you couldn't tell exactly what the car was it was this mangled twisted ball of metal a firmer pointed out saying he took the motor out of it after smashing the car up and put it in the truck and initially I paid like $50 for said truck buying it for the windshield front bumper and a few pieces to do with holding the radiator in. I had a half ton truck after that and I don't care what anybody says you can't compare a half ton truck to an old Jimmy full-size the drive experience is just totally different and I hated the half ton truck the whole time I drove it originally expecting it to be the same as Jimmy.unfortunately never had the luxury of getting my hands on an old short wheelbase or even long wheelbase GM Van Der one of those vehicles that is way overly valued where I live and they're the only vehicle I know of that is about the same driving experience as one of those full-size Jimmy's that they made from around 1970 up till 1987. They made something similar in the 60s there was several design changes around 1970 as I understand it. I think 73 was when they switched over to it being a partially steel roof so that they could put Shoulder belts in it instead of lap belts. One of the things I miss is that deed nasty snarling sound I used to get complaints that you could hear me start the engine from a block away lol. The transmission was out of a pace car edition Firebird that looked like Knight Rider unfortunately the car had lost the items like the digital gauge cluster which I would not have minded getting my hands on. Also used the steering wheel out of that car besides the transmission.the thing had a positron should rear end somebody had put on it before I got it so I'm sure you can imagine what that vehicle would do if you were extremely careful with the gas pedal LOL. Was kind of funny when you think about it because those old vehicles had such a crappy little speedometer reading I think is that The speedometer Perley read over 110 km. The thing basically look like a brick with wheels so I'm sure it did a lot of here standing when people realize what it would actually do comparison to what it looked like. Unfortunately after using it four or five years I didn't have the money financially to do anything with repairing the body further. I've seen vehicles that were much worse restored but I'm not going to why there was not a lot of metal laughed and the one saving grace to vehicle the whole time I drove it was that massive frame or the thing would've basically self-destructed. Head a sheet of plywood in the back as an example which should tell you how bad most of the floor was in the entirety of the back. And no heater core whatsoever that spontaneously constructed shortly after getting it and we remove the hoses and put a bypass in never did get around to putting another heater core in it not like a year would make much difference where it had no back window just a sheet of wood and a fiberglass removal top I'm sure anybody reading this can only imagine what driving that in the winter was like especially in Nova Scotia if you're familiar with our winter temperatures,wEEEEEEE:). wish I could find a picture of the thing but I don't think I ever took any. It was just something we stuck together and I plan on using for a winter or two and ended up driving the thing I think almost 5 years later and summer. Tried getting a hold of one a few times sense and believe it or not they want around four or 5000 for one in significantly worse shape then the vehicle I started with which I paid I think 200 or 10o for. You guys in the US don't know how lucky you are the kind of vehicles you can get from between 100 and 500 same vehicles here in Nova Scotia would make you rich. That's exactly why I don't have a old GM cargo van even one from the 90s or newer what they go for would knock you down. I've looked at several from the 1970s and 1980s that were so rotten it was debatable that you could even attempt to do anything and they wanted 2000 or more. I've still got the Rams trim rings wheel centers and steering wheel in case I do manage to get a hold of a van as well as a Edelbrock four broker braider and a brand-new distributor shaft rotary And Botton lol.

Bed is definitely Ford and correct for the vehicle. The reason the unibody box/cab body lines match is because they are one piece. Ford only offered two body versions in '61 and '62...the unibody and the flare side (stepside). When the unibody didn't work (issues with body flex leading to cracking between the 'cab' and 'box' seams, doors not closing properly under heavy loads, windshields popping out, etc) and got discontinued, Ford wasn't ready with a specially made fleetside box, so many models got the '60 and earlier box since tooling already existed. They didn't get a matching fleetside box until '65 or '66 I think. So even though it's an obvious mismatch, it's correct!

They're trying to entice you to go buy their content. the '30 days' seems to get more and more variable for YT releases.

FUCKING JACKASS. Just read this copied and pasted stuff: They still put out an episode every month for free, this isn't a teaser, it's extra free content. It's more Roadkill, enjoy it or don't, but they still put out the show that we don't pay them to watch every 30 days WITH these free snippet videos.

That cab looks like it’s from a 64 Bc if the door trim and the step looks just like my 64 custom cab

i would love to see show's where that pickup got restored to like when it was new frame off top to bottom now that would realy be some thing else and some thing new for the show THAT WOULD BE TOTAL C😎😎L

Cole Webb that is in no way what Roadkill is about. The cars and trucks with their old looks are awesome and way better than if it was restored to new. You can drive them and not worry about a little scratch.
@colewebb46437 жыл бұрын
Robert Hull well that's why I Said some thing a little new for the show and as far as not driving them after restored well at 59 I have owned payed in cash allway's more car's and truck's than most people twice my age at time's own 8 10 13 car's and truck' at onces I have restored them when i got all no. matched I've hot roded them if got them no motor or and trans. no I don't build street rod's no automatic no air real hot rod's I have raced them street track and I drove my car's every where including back and forth to work and none of what I built ever let me down yes drive them that where the fun is fuck if you put them under glass worrying what might happen taking them out hardly ever you'r not realy injoying them much are you that suck's don't you think like I said I drove mine every where but seeing you guy's taking this on using all you'r different skill's would be bitchen show's seeing come apart thing fix and replaced it all coming to getting doing it only like you guy's could would be a new treat for us especially because like you said how long we seen the truck and how long you did own it it finally got restored like it deserved to be and drive drive fuck worry well it would have been some thing new for the show I would watch each and every one well have a good night 🌇🌆🌃 oh one last thing I mean think if a fender door or bumper gets banged it get's banged restored or not if you get a scratch you get a scratch fix it or repaint it but you will be dead and the car's still under glass and you'r kid's can't even understand what you left the sad drive it in joy C😎😎L

A truck from a simpler time, when the only tool you needed to diagnose an electrical problem was a test light.

I remember that truck from one of the articles about low buck 4x4s. I think the ladder rack makes the truck.

That's not a 65 bed, that's the bed from the late 50s that ford used after the unibodies had their issues.

The large radius fenders are stock on f350s a 4 by fours not the same as big trucks

Anyone know why they put those older late 50's beds on the early 60's Ford trucks? My 65 had a bed that better matched the truck cab.
@TxStang7 жыл бұрын
61and 62 the unibody was supposed to truck of the future but you could buy it with just a cab and chassis for farm with a flat bed use but no bed was designed for it . in 63 they just tossed 57-60 beds on them insted of starting up a whole new set of dies to stamp out a new bed . They sold bare57-60 beds to dealers to put on cab and chassis trucks if customers wanted them . kinda same for why they never designed a nicer flareside bed and used the 53 and up bed on these trucks laziness and didnt want to spend money to develop . 64 they finally caved to internal pressure and public opinion and built the nicer bed like you had . i see alot of trucks where people are putting that newer style bed on ealrier trucks and ditching the non matching beds .
