The fan activation for DD13 DD15 DD16 engines is 223 as maximum if the temperature goes beyond that point the engine will overheat.

Big potential problem because if a hose breaks when climbing a hill you will have less time to pull over and turn off the engine, get a manual switch fan folks! Thanks Francisco!

Temperature goes 220-25 and goes back 200 and did lots of research ask mechanics they told me to replace this and that. Now as you showed me I am like Thank you Man .. you are a great. I have a Freightliner Cascadia 2014 and I was watching the temperature as I’m climbing a grade a pretty long grade and yes it was getting up there made me nervous tonight. But after watching your video that’s exactly where the temperature was and then it dropped! Thanks Francisco

Hey brother thanks for this video. I got 3 dd13 motor coach that I was concerned about this issue. Listening to you I can see that it’s normal for these engine to go high temperature 220 before cooling fan high gear come on. Feeling much better

Could be weak and need a recharge or may be a blocked or dirty cabin filter or something

My fan doesn't turn on at 221. Sometimes it will sit at 230-240 (after running heavy load) until i I turn on a/c, then temperature drops. It will wait til I get to top of line. Like 250 when I'm going up grades then I hear it turn on. Have any ideas what could be issue? Thanks

Thanks much for the video, yes this is what happened to me I was going uphill on I-77 and all the sudden my truck overheated and blew up my radiator, I had to pay $2900 for replacing my radiator, now I’m scared my fan won’t kick on next time I go on an uphill, I have diagnosed the fan clutch and it’s good, but I want to make sure my fan will kick on when it’s supposed to, I have let my truck running for ever idling but the temperature will just stay on about 180-190 but will not reach the start temperature of 220, now is there a way to test this without taking the risk ?

DD platform engines set the fan on @ 221f - 223f very close to redline. This number can be programmed to a lower temperature. Having a manual fan switch helps a lot, especially on hills.

Francisco, can we reprogram fan temperature in DDDL? I found in parameters fan coolant temp stage1 and stage2 set to 221F. Is that the parameters that activate fan?

Correct. If it is deleted you can set it up to the temperature of your choice but if the DPF is working do not set it lower than 215

If the computer has that as preset, yes. If not. You have to reflash the computer with a different software with 500 hp options

That design is by far the dumbest design I have ever seen on any vehicle DD 13 and DD 15 engines get hot, cold, hot and cold, hot and cold again which causes radiators to explode overtime due to material fatigue. It’s a moronic design potential overheating is a plus to all that manual fan switch resembles something you would see on a Russian truck or actually Soviet one
