Good vid, cause I just replaced my fan clutch and noticed that temp was doing the exact thing you mentioned in climbing to around 221 and then dropping back down. My previous clutch was shot so it was rigged to always spin… so anything above 190 was concerning to me.. 😅

Sounds like u said it backwards about the thermostat not closing. If the temp reads high, if its a thermostat problem that should be a thermo not opening to let the radiator coolant into the engine block after warm up (when it reaches the thermostat temperature it opens to let more coolant in from the radiator.. This is how it works in a car at least.

I'm sorry but anything over 200 runs wear on the hoses and plastic I feel like idk 221 feels too high especially with dd15 having that plastic manifold

At what temp should the thermostat open on a 2016 dd13, after a short drive bobtail my truck will be at 200 or so on the gage and 193 or so on the digital readout, the top hose will be hot but the bottom hose will be barely warm, does the waterpump fail open ?

If the Thermostat is open, the coolant will flow and the truck will take longer to warm it! Stuck Closed Thermostat will make a truck hot!

Going thru a high temperature problem hoping u or someone here can help. I was loaded & my temp was rising, hovering higher & higher & hovering in the 225 area. Water pump is OEM about 2yrs old. No leaks. Just had new OEM thermostat & coolant temperature sensor installed. It seemed to work good. Drove around to bring up temperature up but it stayed kinda low between 185 going down to 160ish. I drove about 45min to deliver a load. Seemed to run kinda high about 200/205. Normally would be about 195ish. I offloaded & I'm driving back empty & needle is rising to about 210 then hovers to 215 to 220 & stays hovering about 225. I don't know what gives. Defective thermostat? Inside impeller of the water pump broke off maybe? Plugged up coolant filter? (Not sure if that can even cause that) or something else. The top of my radiator & hose going to egr cooler/head is hot. Bottom of my radiator & hoses/pipes are cold. Thermostat is hot to the touch. Belts are present & intact. Fan is on. Very confused.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you flush your coolant system? Detroil decided to remove the coolant filter for 14+ model. Therefore, you must flush your system every year.

How about oil temp? I’m always running 225-230? Seems crazy high?

Bullshit. My bottom hose was cold changed the thermostat and didn’t fix it. Change water pump and fan solenoid still no change.
