I love this version of the theme, makes sense when you see it as you fight Garl instead of Astrea, as the theme calms down after you kill him and approach her

I like to think this is Garl Vinland's side of the theme. What both the Slayer of Demons and Garl hear when they fight. For one it's a high-stakes fight. For the other, it's just the slaughter of a couple of traitors. For the last, a reflection upon her life in her final moments. Imo, this fits better than the OG in terms of all that's going on, not just the fight. This is still a righteous battle amongst defiled creatures come back to life, after all. None of this was supposed to happen, but it did because of a maiden's willingness to help at all costs. I would've liked it to calm down to a variation of Alex Roe's Abandoned by God theme after Garl would be dead to symbolize that now there is no righteous battle, there is only the reconciliation on the blood of people doing the right thing at their own expense being spilled by your blade. You became a demon to slay the demons. You conquered your inner humanity. You are now the perfect Demon Slayer. You are... an archdemon.

some people prefer the original over this. some might argue that it's too "heroic" while the battle itself is more on the sad part. while i can definitely see that, i feel like this one perfectly encapsulate both the heroic and sadness altogether, it's not the theme for you or Astraea, but for Garl. He's marching and trying all his damned best to stop you from reaching Astraea, he knew that he's the last wall between both of you and knew that losing to you means a guaranteed death for Astraea.

For a while I honestly thought it was the Archdruid's unique theme, so to me it weirdly is more associated with a DS3 mod than Demon's Souls

I do really like this version but it has a very different tone compared to the original. I prefer the original for the feeling of sadness and despair it is able to give me but this one is a banger that gets me hyped. Definitely is Garl Vinlands theme not Astrea's I'd say

That's a good way of putting it. I also like the feeling of sadness and despair. This version is GOOD, but I wouldn't say it's good for the fight in mind. Beautifully done! Just not appropriate.

@@linkonar7823 a lot of people who played the original Demon's Souls distinctly remember the fight that took place and the tone that was in mind. The whole thing was meant to frame you as the bad guy and make you realize that maybe you aren't the hero this time. It was a sad fight and the actual boss was not Garl since he didn't have the big health bar at the bottom, but it was rather the helpless maiden who can't defend herself. With that in mind, it paints this sad scene where the fight easily boils down to a noble bodyguard just defending a genuine saint where both you and he are left with no other choice. I recommend you play through the games! They're not the best, but it's where the Souls series really got their claim to fame!

I was this close to sending a this story to the pope I got in a mood and it was great the part about astrea loosening her faith when she see the pestilence , plague , and sorrow of valley of defilement it was great I left out the dark souls names and left them mysterious, and definitely added the part the end when you kill garland , I was to nice 😊 I deleted it but some part wished I hadn’t

In all honesty I tried to enjoy demon souls but the controls werent fun and it demanded too much to level up

Honestly works better as Caimar's theme weirdly enough, but it still works very well in both. Just strange how it fits a mod better than the OG game in a way.

I personally prefer the original theme. There was no point to go all epic IMO. If this was in an open field with a horde of demons on the opposite side of you with a bunch of heroes then the music fits perfectly.

while i love this version, it would make more sense as a final boss theme, for a tragic or betrayed foe. Might have been more fitting if you knew the characters beforehand and had to kill them later.

I disagree fully. This fits very well as a theme for a dramatic moment in the game's story, a moment where the demon in front of you isn't a monster, isn't an evil or manipulative person, but is just a holy woman guarded by a faithful knight. This theme has a motif of creeping dread that the original had none of. It's not a dread that you fear, though. The dread is the player character. From Vinland's perspective, you are a random interloper who seeks to kill Astraea to steal her power. And that's exactly what you are. She is innocent, you are there to commit an act that can only be described as murder regardless of its necessity for reaching the ending, and her knight stands defiantly in opposition to this prolific slayer of demons. You have killed many grand beasts and things revered as deities before now, and these two are just people, and they stand in defiance anyway. It's a dramatic moment that I think rightfully deserves heavy, dramatic music!

Yeah that's fair. I personally love both versions, but I agree with the criticism that the music is sometimes a little too 'epic' for encounters like this.

I felt the same way but gradually warmed up to it after thinking of the new the theme to represent garl’s struggle against the player more than the opposite.

Personally I like both for different reasons. The old is the sobering depressing realization that you've truly lived long enough to see yourself become the villain. The remake is Garl Vinland making a heroic final stand against said villain. I wouldn't mind a way to have the old music options kinda like Halo Anniversary though.
