I am a master mariner, gaining my certificate in Hong Kong in 1970 with the Hong Kong harbour authorities in a very stiff series of written, practical & verbal tests. All my father's side of my family have been mariners from at least my G G Grandfather. To me, shipwrights are the top of the tree where joinery is concerned. To watch these young guys, masters of their trade utilize it & produce this picture of perfection still has me in awe even now @ 73 years of age. I salute each & every one of you, BRAVO she is beautiful a credit to you all. 👏👏👏👏👏👏

Unbelievable! Absolutely magnificent! Now can you imagine building ships centuries ago with the tools and materials they used! Just staggers to think how much we have regressed! The skill, love, and hard work put in here is just sensational. What a beautiful Lady you created!

Building a construction that is curved in all planes is a whole other ball game than house construction. You really have to be Sharp and focused. Great job and heritage preservation! Western Norway sits on a unbroken chain of craftmanship of wooden boat building, handed down from shipsmith to apprentice over at least 1500 years.

I have doubts about the correctness of using mechanical saws instead of axes. Because the processing with an axe closes the fibers in the bar, which prevents the bar from gaining water

This is absolutely mind boggling. The fact that the original plan came out of someone’s mind and the builders had no where near the modern tools that these folks had. The men that restored this had pieces to mimic but that doesn’t take anything away from their skill set! They were phenomenal! What a great watch!

The hammer that he is using at 6:24 to sink the nails is in every antique store around our area. They must've been very useful in building wood structures such as barns and commercial buildings at one point or another. I know the railroad used them for years because i have actually implemented one or two in my crossing replacement days. It's interesting what you learn when you open your mind and watch something you previously found uninteresting. Such a cool trade and tradition. The craftsmanship is astounding and from such young men.

my grandfather had one of these hammers (he called it a “clincher”) hanging on the wall of his workshop, and i never saw him use it until the time he had a bunch of neighbours help with re-framing a section of his old hay barn with rough-sawn beams. then it felt like i used that thing to sink a million nails that weekend! 🥵😂
