It's almost poetic that France, the nation who helped us Americans in our fight for independence, should be liberated themselves with help from America. An old friend repaying a favor with blood.
@Lxx-tc4xc2 жыл бұрын
I have been aware of that "poem" as far back as when I was 10. This liberation occured twice in a half century. Barack Obama, in his speech responding to the terror attacks on 15 November 2015 in Paris, referred to France as "our oldest ally." Obama also said that a terrorist attack on France was also an attack on the USA. The USA became a reality with the victory of France and the 13 colonies over the UK, at Yorktown VA, 10/1781. At that battle a majority of the victorious troops were French. The French Navy bottled up Chesapeake Bay, making it impossible for the British to land reenforcements.

Visit Normandy if you have the chance! The people there are GENUINELY grateful for the sacrifices of our brave young men in WWII. I was a little skeptical of the “attitude” of the French before we went but we were treated very well from start to finish. As a result of my experience in Normandy and Paris, I have nothing but good feelings about the French people and their beautiful country. We are planning a trip back next year! I will forward this video to as many of my friends as possible.

Thank you friend. My family and i are from Normandy, and my grandmother told me numerous tales about her ww2 memories; how the Germans bombed a café near her house at the start of the war and she saw all the dead people and the blood. How a young German soldier disobeyed orders and gave her family milk and bread when they were starving. But at no moment she is more enthusiastic, happy than when she tells about Americans and Allies coming in Normandy for ending the war and liberate the country. She was 7 years old at the time, but still remember like it was yesterday. I have no more words to say except : Thank you. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten.

I was actually surprised when he out of nowhere started telling me of some of his experiences in England and France then. I remember that he said that the location in the U.K. that they were stationed at wasn't far from Stonehenge. I dislike that the longer time that passes from then that I forget more of what I learned from him. I think that I should take a vacation to Europe. To see and be at Normandy where history was made and see a part of the world that he saw and I imagine experienced things I never shall.
