I would watch Julia with my Nana in the 70's and 80's. I remember Nana making crepe suzette and her making it flame. I miss her very much she taught me a lot about cooking and baking.

These might give you a hangover or, at the very least, a massive sugar high, but the taste and presentation would in my opinion, be absolutely worth it! Thank you Julia Child! You are a national treasure!!!

A living (when recorded) work of art is never flawless i.e. Lucille Ball, Etta James, Dick Van Dyke, Jacques Pepin, Ray Charles and Jackie Gleason. She was an expert and immortal genius.

Are the dark corners for real (was the series shot that way) or are they just an affectation overlaid by PBS to make people think they're watching an old TV?
@johnhpalmer60982 жыл бұрын
Remember, this was shot in 1963 for the first season and it was caused by the cameras in use at the time as this was shot live to tape, 2 inch quad tape at that (in glorious B&W). At that time, WGBH was part of NET (National Educational Television) that later became PBS as we know today. They would eventually replace these cameras in I think 1964 and the cut off corners disappear if not mistaken. WGBH then likely had limited funds to have the latest equipment and had to make do with what they had at that time.
@chouseification2 жыл бұрын
@@johnhpalmer6098 is right - it's not actually "corners", it's actually a circular tube in the camera that we're seeing here. Since a lot of TVs of that era had big ugly rounded corners cutting into the frame, you tended to not notice this sort of error.
@gregorykayne6054 Жыл бұрын
Real. That how video recorded-TV looked in the early to mid-1960's. You'll see the same effect on many of President Kennedy's press conferences (1961-1963).
@gregorykayne6054 Жыл бұрын
@JohnPalmer6098 • Dad's 1950 Air King TV had a screen that didn't show corners. We were still using it as a second TV in 1963.
@YT4Me57 Жыл бұрын
@@chouseification i was definitely around at that time, watching cartoons and Julia Child on a black and white television in the living room. Never noticed any corners 😂

@@dpb8780 it’s still a nice series, no matter how the recipe was "butchered". She was trying to introduce some French cuisine to the American middle class and she did that with an amazing dedication and passion, so no matter if there’s yeast or not, no matter if the Belgians or the French made the recipe, she wanted to have people enjoy cooking something different.
