Great reaction, "French Fry!" Adam's the best beat boxer out of all the top a cappella groups. This was a great display of his unbelievable talent, but you'll hear him do even more in the various Home Free performances. One of the main reasons HF's "Man of Constant Sorrow" is so popular is Adam's imitations of the harmonica and "jaw harp." When you have the pleasure of reacting to MoCS, pay close attention to the sounds behind the singers -- that's Adam!

And he is doing a solo during a concert, that gives the other guys a break, then he continues to beat box during the whole concert. The announcement at the beginning was Tim Foust, the bass singer of the group, but yes, between Adam's beat boxing and Tim's bass, and some of the other guys have instruments that they can imitate with their voices, it always sounds as if there are instruments, but their songs are ALL acapella

The most impressive thing to me is his simulation of the mounted/rack tom sounds, like how he gets the subtle timbre going from mid to high tom in rapid fills. It is really one of the most extraordinary musical things I have ever seen and I have been playing guitar and in to all kinds of music for over 40 years.

Here is a link to one that he did 11 months ago, and you will be totally amazed at just how much more he does now. Actually, he's added so many other sounds to his act such as a Harmonica, Fog Horns, a ships horn, and a whole host of other sounds you'll find in the newest album and video's from their Dive Bar Saints tour. I don't think there is a sound this guy can't emulate. Loved the look on your face when he started, can't imagine how shocked you'd be, if you watched his newest solo act. They had a European Tour earlier this year, but had to cut it short because of the Covid Virus outbreak. They will be back again, just as soon as it's safe for them to travel again.

Marie, thank you for your reaction. It was the best I've seen in a long time. I loved your honest enthusiasm, no hype just real emotion. It sounds like you are just getting started in the world of reaction videos. I suspect you know that there is a vast number of videos you can react to even if you were to limit yourself to a cappella. As a very curious person you are going to find all sorts of videos to respond to. I hope you have a great deal of fun. Meanwhile, there are plenty of Home Free videos to react to. I'm sure you will get recommendations for videos such as "Man of Constant Sorrow", "End of the Road", "Mayday", "Helplessly Hoping", "How Great Thou Art", and many more that have that "WOW" factor. I hope you take the time to react to some of there silly ones like "All about the Bass", "Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget". The guys are being silly but the singing is always great. I also recommend watching some videos of their live performances. It will give you an idea of how good Home Free is as all round entertainers. For a person who's first language is French you speak English very well. There are some rough edges of course but there also are whole sections that sound as if your first language is English. To my ears your English has a middle American accent like they use in movies and on television. Nicely done!!! I'm looking forward to seeing a lot more of you. Please take good care of yourself and have a wonderful time.

Wow! I can't believe I just found this video! Your expressions during this were *great* to watch! Loved this! Adam and Kevin O. (of Pentatonix) are the two best beat-boxers around (IMO); they just concentrate on doing 'their own thing', with different kinds of sounds for each of them. I think the two of them should do some collaborations together! Don't you think so?!? I think they could probably do music together like nobody else can! P.S.- the part where he was doing the sound of the Australian native's didgeridoo was absolutely *stunning!* And yes, the various sounds are rough on the mouth; you have to constantly practice, for two reasons ... -1- the muscles of the mouth and throat have to be 'kept in shape', if they lose their strength or you don't practice enough you'll lose the ability to make the sounds properly, and ... -2- not practicing for quite a while will lead to the *skin* in various parts of the mouth *going soft* - literally! If he stopped doing those sounds for 8 or 10 months, the skin would soften-up and doing things like this 'drum solo' performance would make the skin in his mouth sore, like if you slapped (even lightly!) an area on your arm or leg for 3 or 4 minutes non-stop!

If you're going to watch Pentatonix (which is a great idea), here's a small preview of their Beatboxer, Kevin Olusola. This is a solo vid. When performing with PTX, Kevin mostly does beatboxing and background vocals. But sometimes he does a lead vocal, and sometimes they have him play cello (they're not quite as pure acapella as Home Free, but when they do use an instrument they make it plain). Kevin is a graduate of Yale. Also went to Berklee College of Music. Speaks English, Spanish and Mandarin. Plays multiple instruments, got started at age 4. Developed the technique of "celloboxing" that you see here. In this vid, he plays cello lines, sings, beatboxes with his mouth, does a couple other things, and controls the looping software to being the recordings back around when he wants them so he can multilayer himself on the fly. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3jNmGRvaM1nhc0

Adam Rupp is a founding member of the group, but you may notice that he kind of hides in the background a lot. He beat boxes in nearly all their stuff but he _very rarely_ sings. I'm given to understand getting him to sing takes a lot of convincing because oddly enough he's shy. You will see though that Home Free members take turns as 'lead singer'. They will have several videos featuring one member then switch who that is after. Its a great system. Anyway, please react to their cover, 'Think A Little Less' it will really give you an overview of them.
