One thing i notice about this - if I am busy, tired or whatnot and have less motivation, I play this and in 6 minutes, for some reason, the effect is so positive that I want to continue - it gets me in the mood. It is simple, it gets the mind in a good frame of playing and because I am familiar with it, it is like an ice breaker that works every time. Simple - like magic. And strange enough, i have often played for 2 hours after this- up to midnight - this one opens the door. Can't explain it, but works . . . ..

Wow, I'm glad, the effect you describe is incredible but you have it well contrasted. I will have to make more videos like this, to warm up and encourage further study.

@ferranfrenchhorn Here's my take on why it works so well. 1... It is fun to play along. 2... It has those jingle notes that take the boredom out of drudgery scales and monotony. This makes it come alive, easily. It is motivating. 3... it's like playing with a group 4... . I match your playing, so now it's a duet. 5... It definitely improves tone and range. Philip Farkas has studies to get a good tone. Slow, low, long tones, slurring, clarity. His methods are similar to your methods, AND it works. After 3 months off this summer and back in the orchestra, my tone quality skyrocketed in 3 weeks to the best of the 4 of us, easily. The first is a great player, has a Conn 8D I think, while I have a Yamaha modified 567, still sounds better. The range is higher. I could not hit a clean high C. Now I can get it and F, G are clean, accurate every tine. Endurance is better. 6... I combine it with 3 others, intervals. arpeggios . 7... No dialogue, just action. Smart.... My suggestions... 1... Have a printout of the goals sought at the beginning and during the workout so we know what needs to be accomplished ex. take deep breaths, aim for even tones, play loud here, play ppp here, clean lip slurs, clean high notes here, 2... a tuning note, middle C on Bb side, then low C on F side. 3... stand when playing 4... Aim for Hollywood tone. 5... Have level 2 version where you take this and add in dynamics of very loud and ppp, and tricks like a hold on the high notes that go from p to fff and back to ppp and then complete the score, make it difficult so we have to co Concentrate and be challenged

Well, to continue with the work, you have to improve, there is no limit to the performance quality of an instrument, you can always acquire more resistance, better sound, more extension and much more, which we will surely achieve with correct and regular work. Thank you for your opinion Qwiklok

@ferranfrenchhorn You're welcome. My name is Dave. from Winnipeg, Canada. I respect and love your simple, effective tutoring. seen lots, but this works well for me. All action, no talk, get it done, short, simple, effective. Lots of small steps that accomplish things, gets weekly victories in small bites. not overwhelming, encouraging. This was Jesus method. Basically shut up, healed them instantly, then the healed person jumped for joy in appreciation. Jesus smiled, and went away. Not much talk. Taught by example. Win win. .See the similarities? Keep it up Dave

Your accompaniment makes warming-up engaging and similar to that of singers. After all, Horn is our chosen voice. As my teacher, John Barrows, taught we are to make our playing sing. So, this video should represent our singing, Thank you for you inspiring work.

Yes, playing the horn and singing are more similar than it seems. The song must be our inspiration for its naturalness and closeness. You're welcome, a pleasure to share my work.

I have been playing this daily now for about 2 weeks or so and I can tell you it has made a remarkable difference in my playing. The trick is to learn to relax and not get too stressed out. The backgrounds make a difference as it helps to get in the mood and relax. Tuning is tricky because this is a bit sharp from my tuning app, especially on the F side (F slide is out by 1.25") but that is OK because even this hones my intonation skills on the fly - good thing. I have to play with my right headset partially off so I can hear my horn clearly. While rehearsing for a concert for 1.5 intense non stop playing yesterday (dec 2022) in 2 days hence, I noticed that after the rehearsal, my tone was the best I have heard in 3 years. Golden Hollywood sound - lovely. Something is working well. Highly recommended. It really gets you up to speed in a hurry. Even on a day off, this is a good thing to do to keep in tone. I notice a daily change and improvement. There is something to the methods, which I think is a blend of Farkas approach. From low to high, to the cellar and long sustained notes. Now I try to not press too hard on the mouthpiece. In 2-3 weeks, a remarkable change. DO IT.

I am very glad that this exercise has helped you, I think that, in general, technical horn exercises with background music help to improve intonation, tempo and attitude.

This is really good. on with the headsets, try to keep in tune with you - tricky, a good workout to get things going. I was following Farkas for a while and it is very good, but this makes it fun and keeps me on tempo, tune and motivated. Good stuff!

Si, la parte grave tampoco me la hacía practicar el maestro Vicente Zarzo, pero la he añadido en este calentamiento para darle más tesitura al ejercicio.
