Part 1: • French Montana on His ...
--------
French Montana has discussed his career, starting with his origins as a battler in The Bronx. He highlighted the importance of the practice in determining and demonstrating the best artist, with rapping alone insufficient to achieve recognition. Names such as DMX and Cassidy gained their fame through this method, according to Montana. Beyond winning battles, Montana faced substantial challenges as a budding rapper from The Bronx, with entry to radio shows nearly impossible without major DJ representation. Desiring to break this pattern, Montana and a friend developed the Cocaine City DVD series, blending stories of successful rappers with those of drug dealers. The ultimate goal of the DVDs was to demonstrate the realities of the lifestyle that many rappers described in their songs. The DVDs offered a unique platform through which Montana could promote himself, ultimately leading to wider recognition for his music.

Pre-2016 French Montana was the shit. 2009 to 2014 was my favorite era!! I think he got really watered down after that and while it might have gotten him some big plaques, he alienated his core fanbase because the lyrics and subject-matter weren't there in the songs anymore. When he dropped Coke Wave 4 in 2019 (skipping over a Coke Wave 3) that's when I tuned out entirely because I'm not going to put in effort if you're not putting in effort.

Who the hell was checking for Vlad's DVD and how many volumes did it even have?? Can't be many. I think Cocaine City went up to 14 volumes, plus two Coke Wave volumes. SMACK and The Come Up were huge. Sub-0 might not have been big outside the east coast but in the NY/NJ area that was the fourth main DVD and is a gem. Sub-0 was like a combo between rappers and strippers.

Probably because of all the swearing and sample clearances like if you upload a old DVD and it has a older rap song or beat instrumental to a famous song playing they have to get sample clearances for all the music,Idk if your a wrestling fan but that’s why certain older wrestling clips have different music now then in the original version when older clips get added to KZbin or put on streaming services

Don't forget the Tru Life vs Jim Jones beef. In 2007, Tru Life was on _Cocaine City_ after they had just robbed "Jenny Jones" of his Dipset chain! In 2008, _Cocaine City_ put out the footage of Juelz Santana getting kidnapped by London goons while on tour! Also in 2008, maybe the same volume or the next one, French and Max B's crew rolled up on Jim Jones outside his studio and he called the cops on them. He did the same thing against Max B at some concert they were both booked at, and that was on the _Cocaine Wave_ DVD in 2009. Hell Rell, Frekey Zekey and Jim would get roasted by French and Max on every platform. Dipset would get beaten or robbed every other week it seemed like, not just in New York but overseas too. It was all over WorldStar, KZbin and blogs back then, most of these links are dead now. Most people didn't use the internet before the 2010s, and the mainstream rap audience and underground audience were like two different worlds. The latter was just so much deeper and with far more music (mixtapes) if you were online. JR Writer got surrounded and punked by Toronto goons at one point! Jim Jones and Mel Matrix got chased out of Bronx or Brooklyn at one point. ByrdGang used to have chairs thrown at them at shows. Max B was the first to expose Jimmy being a cuckold cuz his wife Chrissy been with everybody. Even in the 2010s there was an incident where Jimmy almost lost his life to kingpin and Blood leader Ra Diggs.

The DVD magazine era was epic. I actually found one of my old Smack DVDs. I remember the Battle for the Booty, I had like two of 'em. Chedda, Cocaine City, Smack, Sub0, Straight Stuntin'. I had them all.
