I think take during a exercice with the US navy...As i was in the Aeronavale in the debut of eighties, i see F18 and Tomcat take touch and go on the french carriers, but never land because the lauching system was not the same (cable attachment)...but Breguet Alizé land on US carriers because they can take off from a carrier without catapult...

@leekimlanuza Well the AMRAAM has a range of 48 kilometers whilst the Meteor has a range of +100 kilometers. More than twice the distance of the AMRAAM. It has the biggest range of any missile, and the largest high-probability-kill-radius of any known air-air missile. Given the fact that all the latest versions of the European fighter jets conduct stealth (Low IR/Heat signature, relatively small RCS, radar absorbent paint and electronic warfare systems) they're all perform extremely well in BVR

No I think it's a mistake. If you look into the pilot's mirror you can clearly see 2 vertical stabilizers, which means the video has been taken from another Tomcat.

@BeChucky Don't know. If I'm asked the question, I would say it may be an international exchange between french and US navy, and the vid would have been taker by a french pilot on a flight onboard a F-14. But it's only an hypothesis.

@chenoir First, french navy pilots are trained by US Navy at Meridian, so they are collegues ^^ And then there is plainty of possibility to operate together, for exercise or war (like in 90's, in serbia for instance). So not so much a suprise! :p We see your carier in Mediteranea quite often, so it is always good to share experience (and to kick your cowboys asses :p ah ah)

@leekimlanuza You clearly have no clue what you're talking about if you're comparing it to a sniper. Stealth, Electronic warfare systems, counter measures, Advanced Radars and long range high-kill-probability missiles are all a big part of the term BVR which stands for Beyond Visual Range. The USAF lacks modern long-range missiles and on top of that, few of the planes operates AESA radars. The Eurofighter currently lacks an AESA radar which it will recieve in around 2015.

@Cougar133 I'd still say that the Rafale has the advantage in all air-air combat scenarios, in BVR aswell as close range dogfight. The Eurofighter and the Rafale would be somewhat similar in air-ground capabilities but I'd bet my money on the Eurofighter in overall bombing capacity. The Gripen NG will be somewhat similar to the Rafale in air-air combat. However the Gripens won't see action in Afghanistan. USAF already provides air support and the Swedes are getting out no later than 2014.

@leekimlanuza diferent exercises have proved you're wrong . typhoon and Rafale are equal in dogfight , but typhoon is slightly better a high altitudes whereas rafale is better a middle altitude .Rafale is a better platform for air to ground . typhoon development in air to ground is poor . typhoon is in late . rafale has already done CAS support in afghanistan since 2006 .... we are always waiting for typhoon ( and gripen ) in this country to support their troops ! ......

Airframe of EF 2000 is very unstable which means high maneuverability thus it's has super cruise capability as well as stealth .......... You have any proof of this ? ......... I watch a show dog fight it's was F 22 vs su 47 and there was i think 4 of them f 22 has one lost then the rafale came in but it was no match...... Have you forgotten that the F 22 has a BVR

Non la faut arreter quand meme, ca tourne au ridicule, ces avions etaient deja consideres comme vieillissants quand j etais dans la Marine ( service nationale ) et c etait en 1992. Faut qu on ait que des mirages f1 a leur opposer, non franchement c est plus serieux, en tout cas chapeau aux pilotes qui continuent a voler sur ces engins et qui doivent l avoir mauvaise en voyant leurs collegues sur Rafale.
