@@JJ-ct4eu Technically, it got Emily together with Alfie. At first she didn't wanna be paired with him because they're both native English speakers so there wouldn't be much opportunity for Emily to practice her French. She got plenty of that with Petra, the Ukrainian girl. As a Russian, I'm also upset by the fact that they decided to make Petra a thief. I lived in Paris and despite Emily's simple success and exposure to this high class working world it ISNT unreal depending on your circumstance. I worked at a school where celebs and billionaires sent their children. It was common to invite teachers to soirées and dinners, I tutored at billionaires homes, etc. It's true her apartment is huge for Paris and yes she wears WAY too many colours. I adopted the black only way of life and Sylvie IS realistic. The smoking and not eating is cliché but I can name several colleagues just like her.

Well this show is not about the French or Paris! The cliches are MERE punchline. What is CLICHE are these idiots whining about how Paris is over rated. Sex And The City is not Real. But it is not a Soap Opera or a Sitcom. A woman like Samantha Jones can possibly exist. Because sluts do exist even in a convent. I travel in Vietnam, I met 2 mega rich FRench Boys in a backpacker bar. We bumped into those ultra Posh French Men in Shanghai and take you in high places. A poor traveler like me with Quirky Outfits attract wealthy Brits, who invite me to their parties. So yes, Emily can be real. Some Americans are not annoying. Emily is one of those.

@zggg89 I think you mean, SATIRE instead of PARODY. I get satire, but there's a big difference between smartly written satires (like Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada) to ones that just picks out every single plot point and presents it like it's the real deal. It underestimates the viewers' intelligence. And maybe it's just me, but when you're doing a satire, you write the main character as still relatable so that you root for them to succeed. There was nothing in the writing of Lily Collins' character that makes me want to do that. The fact that she cheats with a friend's boyfriend? Is that also a parody? So I guess haha? Sex and the City did it with Carrie, too, but after a couple of seasons, after many episodes of us rooting for Carrie & her love life. I don't know, maybe I'm just dumb, like you implied in your comment, and this is all a PARODY and I didn't get it and you did.

I think that what she meant by saying "too many shows romanticize NY"😂 gossip girl is amazing but it romanticizes the city sm: for instance no scenes in some neighborhoods + gigantic apartments (rents in NY are SO expensive, regular new yorkers don't live in a penthouse :) + they don't take the subway once (which is one of the easiest ways to commute)... and I could go on😂

I made friends with a lot of other nationalities. The only francophone girls I made friends are Belgium and Swiss girls. They're nice and genuine. That’s funny how people are so chocked that it doesn’t represent the real « France » the real « Paris » but… guys… it’s not new ! Gossip girl isn’t a real representation of Manhattan, same with most of the shows. Korean dramas are not real, they do not looks all so beautiful and all these crazy things don’t happen in real life etc etc But when it’s about Paris, people freak out and are the first to say that it’s not the real Paris.. crazy.

I think it’s because the show itself talks about the culture and a big part of the plot is the lifestyle of said location. imagine someone making a show like “life in seoul” and it’s 90% inaccurate But i agree, shows are inaccurate. But this is even worse because the mc goes to ANOTHER country and we get this show. A Korean person making a Korean series where Korea is represented stereotypically, or in a romanticized way isn’t so bad. Because they’re doing that to their OWN culture. But when you take another culture, the mixture doesn’t work as well.

Personally I don't feel that Parisians are mean. They don't have time for tourist bullsh*t, which is understandable as tourists flood the city in millions and are usually very demanding. When you actually need help or start a conversation when appropriate (if you're the only one in the restaurant during a rainy lunch hour, for instance) - most of them are wonderful. Connecting to Parisians requires a different mindset than on the countryside (where people have a more allowing life pace for generosity, generally), but you can easily make many friends.

A lot of visitors or watchers romanticize living in certain places. People who actually live there know the realities. But EIP is not supposed to be realistic. I live in a place where people have unrealistic expectations. They come in the summer and base their opinions on summer life! I did like this video and do love Paris. I get a laugh out of Emily and the cast. Yes, they are stereotypical, but it is not reality. I see enough serious stuff and misery that a bit of escapism doesn’t hurt.

Hello :) French people do not aspire to be mean, and are not meaner than other nationalities I guess. As a previous comment said, it's honesty that is praised. I don't know if you are American, but allow me to take Americans as an example. From what I have seen in my travels and what is showed on US movies and series, Americans have a cultural habit of smiling a lot, being immediately very friendly to strangers and always be enthousiastic and cheerful. While it is not a bad thing at all, the French as a global nation are simply not like that culturally. Also, French people usually have a sarcastic, ironic and kinda dark humor. I suppose it could come accross as mean to someone who isn't used to it, but the French loooooove that kind of witty, bitchy humor. That does not make France a meaner country than any other, though! And a lot of French people I know are extremely warm and sparky. Don't forget that even though Netflix hired those women to "criticize" Emily in Paris, they still need to throw in a pinch of clichés to sell and make views 😉 The mean French girl is definitely a selling stereotype. Add a cigarette and a black and white filter, you're done. Anyway, hope I was helpful ! Greetings from a mixed French and Greek girl 😊

@@alexiakaffes1775 haha I’m Polish, so a very different mentality than Amerinan, we actually have a lot more in common with the French than American. Polish ppl don’t smile at strangers, for example, not enthusiastic and cheerful at all. And I agree, witty humor is great, I travelled to France only twice, I can’t judge from experience, so I really hope the bitchiness is not a serious thing, just sarcasm. Is it true that Parisians and French from other regions are very different though? Greetings and thank you for your insight :)
@alexiakaffes1775
@alexiakaffes1775 2 жыл бұрын
@@ola333221 Oooh you're Polish! Then yes, you are far more likely to be like a French person, rather than an American one 😁 To answer your question, there is absolutely a noticeable dichotomy between Paris and the other french cities and regions. Paris has the "big city" syndrome : much like London or Milan, it is crowded, dirty, expensive, chic and rich but filled with homeless and poor people... And most of the jobs are there. Many people live in Paris or near because of the job market, without necessarily being Parisian. Some of them don't even like Paris. Because of the fact that everything in France is centralized in Paris, there is a rivalry between Parisians and the other french people. Parisians can sometimes be very snobby and feel like they are the center of the world. They can be quite pretentious and call the other cities and regions "la province", which is a very negative expression. Whereas in smaller cities and in the country, many people who have never set foot in Paris their entire life can be very agressive and mean, calling Parisians rich " bobos". They also sometimes have a bit of a complex, feeling like peasants or uncultured without admitting it. There are bad behaviours both ways ! Paris sure has a lot of flaws but it's a beautiful, very interesting city. The thing is, there are other wonderful cities in France and the media almost never shows them. Bordeaux, Nantes, Rennes, Avignon, Nice, Nîmes, Metz, Strasbourg... And of course Marseille! And so many others. Paris is not representative of our entire country, only a small portion of it.

I was in Paris for work while pregnant, so I empathize with Emily's boss, what's her name 😂. I had the best time to be honest but I come from a place that's dirtier and more crowded, with bigger social issues and more rude hahahaha everything seemed easy in Paris to be honest, loved the metro it was very convenient. People were polite and very very diverse, nothing like this show, I was eating pho bo with bloody meat everyday, and meeting friends at quartiet Latin every night. So beautiful.... But as I said I come from an ugly crowded poor and rude place. I'm sure someone who comes from rural America will not feel at ease immediately. Btw I didn't know French either 😂 I speak 4 other languages but not French, it didn't seem to be a huge problem because everyone was speaking English, and most people weren't even French-French but truly cosmopolitan, and from all over the world, so we would mix and match talking in French, English, Italian, Japanese, a bit of Turkish or Greek etc... Anyways, it was fine. It helps a lot of you are truly fluent of course, but like Emily I was for just a little while, and it didn't seem to be a huge problem.
