It is on my reading list for Uni aswell. I raised the point of Foucault's flirtation with pedophilia and the allegations regarding acts, to which i was met with a blank face and the response "i haven't heard about that, are you sure?" Nothing has been mentioned since and Foucault remains, lauded as a visionary. I am about to complete my undergraduate in Psychology and I have had to pander and nod my way through the entire degree. It was awful, and I am seriously scared for the fields of social sciences moving into the near future.

I was in graduate school in 2013 and was being required to read books about Michel Foucault and Karl Marx. They weren’t written by them but instead people praising them and their philosophies. One day my professor was saying Michelle when we said Michael and when we asked why he went by Michelle the professor said something weird so I decided to look into it. With both for Foucault and Marx, I was so disgusted with what I discovered that I threw up (Alfred Kinsey too) and felt sick for a very long time. It is possible, and even likely, that he was abused by the elderly scholars he drew on and, as then can happen, the abused then becomes the abuser. However, no one is perfect in life. Nonetheless, all students of Foucault need to come to grips with Foucault's blind spot and discuss it in ways that he obviously coundn't. If he had been able to face the truth about himself then I believe his theories would not have been as extreme and avant garde as they are and he would have seen that he had underestimated the realities he was trying to deal with. Indeed if he had seen the light and been able to be honest, then I believe that today's political debate would be less extreme and self righteous than it currently is.
