I am a bit confused because in the sentence "I have a car" the car is not the subject, "I" am, and the car is being "had" by me, making it an object. The film is also being seen by me, also an object. I don't see a real difference in them.
@ParapluieFrench3 жыл бұрын
Your analysis of those parts of the sentences is correct. The car and the film are both objects of the first verb. However, with qui and que, it's about their relationship to the second verb ('is' for the car, 'liked' for the film). Do the same analysis with those verbs in mind and you'll find that the car is the subject of 'is' (it is 'being red') whereas the film is the object of 'liked' (it is being liked by me). That's where the two differ. I hope that helps 😊

Thank you... A thousand times! We covered this in class today & It was as clear as mud.. It was explained in French with no comparison to English as you have done. Yet again incredible video, explaining what these pro nouns are, how they are used differently English, why we get caught out (as English speakers) & a simple rule to follow. About to watch the other 2 videos in this group as we will be covering lequel etc tomorrow. Thank you in advance for saving me from tomorrow's 2 hours class that I would otherwise spend wanting to jump out the window!

First of all a BIG thanks to you for helping clear this up for me, your videos are absolutely awesome! There is however one thing that is making me pull my hair out. In the phrase, "Je cherche l'artiste qui habite ici" The artist is clearly the subject when you are using the relative pronoun. This I understand, all is well. HOWEVER the thing that is confusing the f**k out of me is that the artist is also the object is it not? In the mainclause Je is the subject performing the verb cherche onto the object l'artiste. This is haunting my dreams because whenever I see a sentence I immediately identify that which is the subject as an object and then my head starts hurting. If you have some old tip laying around to help me sort this out I would be eternally grateful. Please keep up the good work!!

"I saw a film that I liked." I thought there was a rule in the french language where you can't use the same subject twice in a sentence. So the translation "J'ai vu un film que j'ai aimé" shouldn't work because you used "je" twice right?
@Peezzeer8 жыл бұрын
