Si vous suivez les chaînes d'information françaises, vous savez sans doute qu'une réforme majeure de la langue française aura lieu en 2024.
Elle a été confirmée en décembre dernier par l'Académie française, et va entrer en application ce mois-ci, en avril. Dans cette vidéo, je vous explique tout ce qu'il faut savoir sur ces changements !

By the way, April fool's jokes made in some partsof the world on KZbin don't reach other parts of the world until the next day, or at least after midday on 1st April, when such jokes become invalid.

@@lindildeev5721 Yes it would make so much more sense to simply say 'nonante neuf' instead of 'quatre-vingt-dix-neuf". I sometimes jokingly call my wife the '99' character from Get Smart but in French though, it's a hoot. "Missed me by THAT much, Quatre-vingt-dix-neuf!!" But you have to be of a certain age to appreciate that... :D

Because for me as a Spanish speaker, it doesn't make sense there exist letters that aren't pronounced until I realized it was a joke. Comme on! In Spanish there are also silent letters: "h", "u" after "q", "u" between "g" and "e" as well as "u" between "g" and "i". "S" is silent in several/many countries as well as in regions of several countries. Other letters can be silent depending on the Spanish variety.

Ce matin, en me réveillant, j'ai été un peu à l'ouest lorsque j'ai vu Elisa parler de cette réforme incroyable ! En train de préparer mon café, j'ai tout arrêté et j'ai crié : "J'HALLUCINE !!". Tu m'en as eu là. Je suis professeur de français et brésilien et j'étais soulagé à la fin du video. L'ortographe française est complexe, mais elle suit des règles d'étimologie qui ont beaucoup de sens. Imagine apprendre et enseigner une chose pendant toute une vie et après tout changer.

Mais apprendre quelque chose et le changer fait partie du cycle de la vie, après tout, la vie est dynamique. Aujourd'hui encore, j'utilise "raíz" e "idéia" mais je sais que ces mots n'ont plus d'accents. Je suis heureuse de savoir que cela facilite la tâche de ceux qui veulent apprendre le portugais, notamment pour pouvoir transcrire ce qu'ils entendent sans en enlever le sens et la signification.

@@azarishiba2559 I agree. I think spelling le chat helps me remember it is cat because of the silent 't'. The silent letters often make the word look more similar to the English, which makes it easier to remember.

Merci Elisa d'avoir remis au goût du jour cette innocente autant qu'amusante coutume qu'était le "Poisson d'Avril", tombée de façon incompréhensible en complète désuétude au fil des décennies. Au début, j'étais choqué de ne plus pouvoir lire ou comprendre un seul texte en français, jusqu'à ce que je me dise qu'il ne pouvait s'agir que d'un poisson d'avril vraiment inventif (et coûteux!). Kudos et merci pour ce soulagement considérable. Rétrospectivement, je ne peux m'empêcher de rire de moi-même, alors que j'étais assis devant mon ordinateur, ici à Vienne/Autriche, complètement abasourdi. Brava! An April Fool joke prepared that seriously and professionally. Watching that on April 9th, I was suspecting from the beginning that it was from April 1, but when it came to the cancellation of liaisons - that was a joke 100%. All the proposed spelling simplification and the Swiss numerals are reforms theoretically possible, but you cannot cancel the liaisons that people actually pronounce.

I'm not a subscriber and don't speak any French but I watch a lot of other linguistics videos (though none on French, and mostly in Asian languages) and had this recommended in my feed, on April 14th. As a native English speaker who understands French, German, Latin, Russian and Spanish (among others), I'd say that even without all the gender, number and casing rules present in these other languages, English is by far the most difficult language of the Indo-European language family to master, particularly spelling-the orthography is horrific in comparison!

Wow, I watched it on the 15th of April and totally fell for it. Moreover, I considered not watching till the very end, so I could have remained ignorant 😅 I used to be fluent in French 20 years ago, but quickly forgot it. I was, however, able to understand most of the video with French subtitles.

I had a similar idea some time ago, but the goal was kinda different: to see whether the extra things in the script that are not in the speech really are redundant and whether there aren't really cases when a written text could be incorrectly understood when read. The base rule was similar - the same pronunciation means the same set of letters used. Although I tried to stay with the original pronunciation rules, so a pronounced consonant at the end had to be doubled (je chantt) and the "revieved" consonants were extra attached (vou'z êtt). So "plus" could be actually written 3 different ways with "plu'z en plu" and "j n sê pa pluss". :)

Bien que l'anglais soit ma langue maternelle, j'ai appris le français quand j'étais enfant, et ces changements, même si certains ont un peu de sens (je vais le donner aux Belges et aux Suisses pour le système numérique plus simple, mais je m'éloigne du sujet...), la beauté naturelle et l’élégance des particularités du français moderne me manqueraient certainement, même si j’aime et pleure la disparition des particularités uniques de la première forme de la langue moderne qu’est l’anglais. Place au patrimoine des cultures anglo et franquiste exprimé dans nos langues respectives!

The joke worked on me as we are the month of May now and it took me a while to make the April fool connection 🙂 . Needless to say I started to internally curse at what I would consider a sacrilège of my native tongue. Was even more believable since a few Francophone countries do count that way and grammatically challenged folks do seem to be already speaking and writing that way.

Justo hoy acabo de ver el video, y me quedé como "¿cómo van a diferenciar tantas palabras escritas o incluso saber qué significan con una reforma tan fuerte?", y entonces escuché el "Poisson d'Avril" al final XD XD Nunca me he quedado tan encantado con un video que te tomara el pelo como con este XD XD Estudié francés 3 años en secundaria, pero por desgracia hasta ahí quedó, y aunque me encantó el idioma nunca tuve oportunidad para practicarlo, menos aún después de haberme vuelto profesor de japonés. Igual, quise ver si con los subtítulos en francés podía entender, y por dicha, salvo una que otra palabra, así fue n_n Gloria al Supremo por hablar español y haber estudiado un poco de francés básico. Esa es la ventaja de los idiomas romances, con un poco de conocimiento básico, y al menos por escrito un idioma le es entendible al otro. Espero algún día retomar francés, pero ahorita estoy ocupado con otros 2 idiomas n_ñU Merci beaucoup! Reí bastante al final XD

Tu m'as bien eu 😅😅😅 Il n'y a que quand j'ai vu l'orthographe de Marseille que j'ai vraiment tiqué 😮 Le coup des liaisons c'était possible aussi mais c'est vraiment moins joli. Par contre cette réforme pourrait être utile pour les gens qui ont vraiment du mal à assimiler toutes ces règles. Ma fille qui a des problèmes d'attention par exemple, serait ravie qu'elle existe.

J'écris le blogue «Girls Of The Golden East» au sujet de la musique Pop féminine des pays-satellites de l'ancienne Bloque Soviétique, qui a des origines à part françaises et pour moi les années fortes sont les années soixante-dix, qui sont encore les «Sixties» en français...et d'une façon les chanteuses de la «Bloque» avaient encore l'ésprit des «Sixties».
