Breathtaking scenery. So peaceful and charming. To wake up to those views is paradise for sure, where you live. Your furry family member is so beautiful. I love his/her colors. You are doing a fantastic job on your future cottage. I truly love your color pallet. Your chosen colors are so soft and minimal, allowing your collectibles to take center stage in your decor. It does take a lot of preparing to refinish furniture but when finished the results are so satisfying. I like you, have a home full of warmth and full of my favorite things. I want my home to reflect our personality and lifestyle. So many people replicate magazine photos without injecting themselves into the style they have chosen. Magazine photos are a great inspiration, but they always require tweaking to get the ambiance you are personally trying to create. You have mastered that in your decorating. Truly a gift. I to like timeless decorating that suits the history of one's home. Once again thank you for sharing your adventures. You are living a very charming life. I may have missed your name in the videos but we know your husband's name. Please share. I love Dutch names. My sister-in- law is Dutch and she has a very long name that for me is a tongue twister. It takes up alot of space on her driver's license. When she says it in Dutch it is so beautiful. I keep practicing to surprise her one day but for now she lets me call her "Hennie." The old buildings in the French countryside are magnificent! I love the peaceful setting. You have done justice to the furniture from the brocante! Repurposing furniture is so rewarding as it gives each piece a second life. I absolutely love that sage green paint you used on the cabinet! I hope you will use that color throughout your home! When I am on holidays and so after walking around exploring all day,my feet are killing me and all I want back at the place we are staying, is a nice cosy armchair, not a sofa that's bought for it's looks or decor and is uncomfortable to sit on. I would put two linen fabric Laura Ashley style feather filled cushion armchairs. They don't take up too much space and can be moved around and placed much easier than a rectangular sofa

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Our sofa that is currently there is very comfortable though. I think we'll start with that one, since we don't have anywhere else to put it during the renovations :) so it will be perfect to keep it in The Cook's Cottage.

It was a tenporary shop but we’ve now moved in here as a family while we renovate the part of the house we lived in before. My shop is now online only (on Instagram). We built the tiny house to rent is as an airbnb so we don’t live there.

Yes it is very toxic although they do have more ecological products nowadays. In any case, always use it outside or in a very well ventilated room and if you are using big quantities, wear protection (masks, gloves etc). Also, I think some of the product evaporates quite quickly but I am not sure all disappears, may take some. Maybe some other viewers here have more info on this?

I know it's not easy to follow :) We keep moving internally as well. We live in the space that was briefly turned into my shop and will be a small holiday home when the bigger building works to the old part of the house are finished. The cabin is not attached to the house, it is on the end of our plot and we rent it out.

I'm very surprized to read you "white wash" like stuff was "shabby chic'ed in the 80s ie with regular wallpaint which is LATEX based and not at all healthy treatment for wood anywhere. You could easily mix up your own emulsion with any of the ancient recepies used all over thr continent for hundreds of years, very cheap and perfectly conditions the wood pores and looks beautiful and is considered professional to use. Emulsions with fresh eggs, buttermilk, linseed oil, lime, and natural pigment like they painted back in the day won't turn antiques values into trend value only. What's more there's nothing toxic in these paints and they keep in the fridge a few days mixed and lidded. With latex wall paint you ger dead material, artificial pigments and an awful choice for the environment, and future longevity of the wood. I've seen ehat you're doing on othee channels in France and it's just disappointing. All this Shabby Chic painting everything white started in LA with US fleamarket finds of no value. It doesn't translate well to brocante items in a country where stuff from the mid 1800s is everywhere and you can even find actual baroque provincial pieces cheap if you know your antiques. Besides people chosing thrifted and refurbished bc it's sustainable and more healthy, I'd expect moving to a beautiful rural setting abroad you'd care about toxins, local ecosystems and cultural traditions that are sustainable and have proven themselves over centuries. Please be mindful and deliberate when working with design and art people. 🙏

Thank you for your concerns. I am not an antiques expert or lover and was happy to find this technique after not finding any way of getting a similar result. Please be mindful in making assumptions on how eco friendly and respectful my husband and I are to local traditions when you don’t really know me. I appreciate you sharing all this information as I haven’t been able to find a good alternative and would have loved this information. Please don’t assume that we, those who like a more modern style, don’t care about the environment or toxins or traditions etc. Some people can be really mean here on KZbin and make assumptions about me and my choices without knowing me at all or even living in France. @@FrenchCountryLife i didn't mean any disprespect, but I also think interests and priorities of adults are expresssed all the time in what we do, not what we say/think/feel only. If you use Roundup on your lawn, it will be green and weedless and perfect. It will also affect your pets and childrens health, (and support Monsanto) . If you make films on gardening that choice may influence many to do the same and rub others the wrong way. It's entirely up to the individual but making a business from something creative it's important to be interested somehow in what you're doing. Your Blomqvist guru guy is Swedish, I'm in Scandinavia, the look your going for is very much the norm here. The methods/materials and fashion of furnishings and architecture during 1700 to mid 1800s are more or less the same in Sweden as in France, the literature abounds on old artisan techniques and methods used then and still, from the Roman Empires famous fresco paintings to iron oxide paint to protect wooden barn beams from the elements up to this day, to tempera emulsions all the pigments used for centuries, lime washes and beeswax for foodsafe surfaces and how to understand natural materials like wood or terracotta or cast iron or marble (their properties, why they are practical, how to treat them to retain function and beauty). Restorative, decorative, painters of furnishings and interiors exist all over Europe, are constantly working, publishing, run businesses and workshops, teach professionals and amateurs, have guilds and are consulted by everyone buying old property or wanting to restore their grandmothers kitchen chairs. I'm not kidding. Anyone interesten in paint also knows there's a whole plethera of brands marketing so called "chalkpaint", "milkpaint" and more as non toxic and proper alternatives for wood (essentially just expensive ready mixed emulsions anyone can make). If you are Dutch there's loads of all this in the Netherlands too I'm sure. You handed back my plea of mindfulness, but you are the one broadcasting what you do. Not I. The info is everywhere irl. I just don't understand the problem or your choices. To me it's about much more than appearances. I understand people on social media can be mean or sick. (it's unfortunately a part of social media). But YT is a huge platform for makers and artisans, loads of tutorials, amateurs and professionals showcasing their process and skills. Critique is inevitable if your choices are entirely random. I'm sorry but claiming rudimentary information on paint wasn't available to you is completely absurd. Anyone in a painters supply shop with some experience could inform you better than using latex on wood. Do whatever floats your boat, this is silly.
