Always love to see your little trips. I love the brown pottery, crocks, and old the olive jar. Things that can group together to form a texture and soft natural color. Like you, the vintage things add so much and tell a story.

Merci Marloes! Loved visiting the Emmaus store with you & loved ALL your finds especially the old trough Olaf will use - for gardening I really like battered & worn items that are still useful & look great! Here in Tasmania & Australia we would call what you do Op- shopping - I think from Opportunity shops where unwanted things are donated to charity shops so they on-sell and make some money for charitable works. Many enjoyable hours have been spent rummaging through other peoples junk to discover useful treasures! Enjoy your week ☀️

The Digoin Sarreguemine Richelieu bowl is mid-20th century. My research said the central flower design is made with stencils - a different one for each color. The rim is airbrushed. With some designs the stencil part is airbrushed by hand, sometimes hand-painted with a paintbrush. (Excuse my comment 2 years after the video was made. I'm re-watching all your thrifting videos!)

As you walked along, the green and white gravy dish and later, the green white platter really caught my eye, as did the cobalt and white pieces. I would have bought that black wire tray and spray-painted it blue, then used it as a display piece for cobalt and white pottery pieces. So many other stoneware pieces, also. 👍😊

Oh, I love that Emmaus. It is my favourite! I just discovered your channel, and when you mentioned visiting Le Creusot (when you go through it t collect the chairs) my ears perked up. We are 20 minutes from there. So strange to see videos on KZbin of our area. We too moved to Burgundy in 2018, are restoring an old house and overgrown garden, love the slow life in the country side, visiting Emmaus, brocantes and vide greniers. Have you ever been to the monthly one in Givry? Such fun to find your videos!

My grandparents were hard working, Cajun French speaking farmers at the turn of the last century in a rural area one hour outside of New Orleans, LA. Many of the items you showed today were the type of pieces I saw in their homes. It is rare to find anything like it today but I keep looking. I am a new subscriber to your channel. I would enjoy seeing more of the kitchenware from your own home in future videos.

Love and enjoy this video so much ! I am in awe when I see you hunting because I saturate so quickly when I see all this mass of hideous objects that very quickly I stop...too quickly to find a treasure like you take home. Is it currently difficult to find plates "terre de fer" ?
@FrenchCountryLife
@FrenchCountryLife 2 жыл бұрын
I have the same "overwhelm" when I shop at Emmaus! That is why you see me scanning so quickly. I went at bit slower because I was filming but usually I go really quick, else all the colors, shapes and junk just totally overwhelms me. Yes I would say terre de fer is not something I see all the time at Emmaus. I did find my gorgeous large set at an Emmaus though, but I hardly see any there, so it's not easy to find. However, if you shop at brocantes (by professional brocanteurs) you can find them pretty easily. There are even many that specialize in it. If you'd like me to share addresses, let me know!

Do you have tips for négociating the prices at these brocantes? There’s never a price on the items so I have no idea the real price to start so I always ask what is the price or how much do you want for this . They give me a price and I try with knocking it down most of the times they just say no it’s just their price no negociating . What do you do 😊
@FrenchCountryLife
@FrenchCountryLife 2 жыл бұрын
My advice? Don't. At Emmaus it is really not done to bargain. It is a charity so you're not shopping there with the intention to get things at the lowest price. Sometimes when I buy multiple things they'll give me a special price but I don't negotiate. At brocante markets or vide greniers you can simply say that the price is higher than what you'd want to spend and see if they feel there is room to bring it down. On a vide grenier t's just between two non professionals in that case (unless there are clearly professionals stands), like when you buy on Facebook marketplace. And honestly: I have an online brocante shop and do not appreciate it when people bargain. I spend hours driving everywhere and finding the best items so it is a curated selection of items and I price them at what I think they're worth and buyers buy it if they feel that item is worth that price to them. There is no reference in knowing the value of an item, unless it's proper antiques. Of course you can always do a quick google search and see at what price an item is sold in the various online shops (Etsy, online brocantes and even eBay for example) and then decide what you want to spend on it. But please don't bargain at Emmaus, I personally feel that is very disrespectful. And if a professional brocante seller is a nice person running a small business, please be respectful to them and honor the sourcing work they have done for you.
@Ciaostella24

@@FrenchCountryLife thx I was more specific to the antiques open air markets I go to Italy a lot and there is room to negotiate, the price is never the price they say 😅

@@Ciaostella24 Ok! Yes I understand, and it can be a bit uncomfortable. I specifically mentioned Emmaüs because that’s where I go to in this video. I’d say research online and when you have a love at first site item, just buy it if the price feels like it’s worth it. Even if you pay a little too much, if the item brings you joy… joy is priceless!
