As screwed up as Frenda was, I always felt that she reeeeally didn't deserve what happened to her. To be tortured into betraying someone you care about by an enemy, then KILLED by that same friend despite her obvious loyalty to them? Frenda was screwed up, but she deserved better than that... I'm glad Mugino got beaten by a level 0 kid, even if it wasn't because of what she did to her. My only disappointment is that not only could the level 0 not finish the job and kill her, but she seems to never actually have to PAY for killing and hurting her friends like she does

I don't think I will ever forgive Mugino for everything she has done ;( Even she has some morality inside, she willfuly chose to commit the most horrible things simply for her lust for power. Kakine is better from her as he actually cares for his comrades. Plus he doesn't kill people indiscriminately simply because they slightly pissed him off.

Mugino has no morality whatsoever. Even if she does regret killing Frenda, she definitely will kill her again without hesitation. It's even more screwed up, she believes Hamazura will forgive her for any kind atrocity she commits simply because he doesn't want to give up on her. However Mugino is quite protective of Frenda's kid sister out of obligation to her.

@@Beerbottles123 Wasn't the reason Mugino killed Frenda was because she sold them out though? And Kakine pretty much ordered Gokusai Kaibi to kill Yomiya (or so it's implied). Also it was pretty clear to me that Mugino in Index III was self-destroying herself by taking the ability crystals and trying to kill or get killed by Hamazura...she was the one who brought up the fact that she killed Frenda to Hamazura, showing she indeed had remorse. The fact she's trying to atone by being over-protective of Fremea (Frenda's sister) shows she's indeed has a sense of morality and isn't just a monster. Ofcourse, I am not condoning any of her atrocities, but just saying there is more to her than that.

First she got absolutely *destroyed* and cyberized into a monster trying and failing to kill Hamazura. *_Then,_* according to LN readers, she mistakes Frenda's little sister Fremea for a ghost of Frenda having come back to haunt her. THEN, it is said out of sheer guilt she not only keeps trying to maintain Frenda's memory alive but she's also obssessed with keeping Fremea safe, for Frenda's sake. So don't worry, Mugino did not get away with it. She just hasn't suffered enough... *_yet._* >;)

@@DRMD2023 Killing characters off screen is just poor writing. No reason to have her survive her fight against Freinda if she was just going to die off screen later. But what apple was saying was: How did that girl survive having a bomb in her mouth go off and fall down a skyscraper? If Freinda dies from "just" being cut in in half, then having a bomb explode in your mouth and fall down a skyscraper would definitely kill a character.

Just started and finished the index and railgun series. After watching it all, her death really felt out of place in this series. Every "death" for characters that had some good in them was always a fake out. They are always in the hospital or survived through a clone. They could of just made mugino think she killed her like how every villain does but the writer really wanted Frenda dead for some reason. I dont get it. With a series so full of redemption arcs and showing how no death is justified why do so many people keep saying she deserved it? She might of been a mercenary but she was still a kid that had friends and was tortured and then killed by the friend she admired the most.

Think about the Clones that Accelerator killed, they were introduced in volume 3 and killed in the same volume. Well, with Frenda it was no different, she was introduced in the same arc as she was killed, she was written to die. Railgun didn't even exist at that time, so we can say that most viewers who complain about her death are because they watched Railgun where Frenda had a cute backstory creating friendships with people like Saten and a "healthy" relationship with her leader. In Index it was different, Frenda didn't have much screen time to win people's hearts by showing her cute side and the relationship with her leader was much more professional. So in order not to let the death of a character that had just been introduced go unnoticed, the Author mentioned that he asked his illustrator to create Frenda's design as cute as possible, so that readers feel her death even if she only had a short time to screen . And it worked so well that Frenda became very popular, so they took advantage of her fame and created a backstory for her in Railgun. But that doesn't take away from the fact that she was originally a side character written to die in a battle royale arc. A mini war arc like this ending without any deaths would be very strange, even Frenda wasn't the only secondary character killed in this confrontation, several other secondary characters also die in this arc, so she shouldn't be the most remembered. For example, Kakine, who is the 2nd level 5 Esper, also died and in a brutal way by one of the protagonists of this arc, Accelerator. Doctors rushed to put Kakine's brain, which was the only thing left, into a cooling chamber. Then several other things happened to him that resulted in something very surprising in the Light Novel. His death should be the most remembered due to the fact that he was an important figure among the Espers, a level 5 but due to the Railgun, people only remember and felt Frenda's death. About redemption, well... it didn't go to Frenda because I believe that betrayal isn't that serious, so it wouldn't be interesting to see a redemption of that. In the end the one who was left with a "redemption" was his Assassin Mugino. The author seemed to want to create a contrast between Mugino and Accelerator, 2 level 5s who killed and regretted it later. In the light novel they even cross paths and fight together for reasons linked to the people they killed. Although they took different paths in what is called redemption.

Personally though, I think Frenda is "alive" in a sense. Hear me out and I will explain: 1. We know that they have clone technology in this manga/anime 2. Frenda little sister conveniently showed up in front of Mugino. 3. While keeping knowledge about her sister a secret, it is still odd that Frenda never told anyone on Item. 4. Lately some of the people in ITEM that knew Frenda have been taken aback at how her little sister seems to have the exact same speech patterns and quirks. While this can happen between siblings, Frenda's speech patterns were a result of her sadism etc. Also, Frenda's sister hadn't been around Frenda all that much when she was growing up... 5. So my guess here is that Frenda's little sister is actually a clone of Frenda... possibly even with her brain etc... and that somebody created her in order to mess with Mugino, OR in order to give Mugino a chance to develop a conscience.

@@IceTealol1 Oh sorry, I hadn't seen the full video. From the beginning of the video until 2:17 takes place a week before Frenda died, exactly on the day Frenda fought Yumiya. Frenda sent a message to Saten agreeing to have dinner in a week. Which brings us to 2:17, it's the day Frenda dies, which is why she didn't show up or respond to messages. A cool point to highlight is that Uiharu seems to have a broken arm here, well, it was Kakine who broke it in the arc where Frenda dies.

The story when Frenda was killed, when it was published, Frenda was a background character that had not had a single scene. I do feel sorry for her. I liked her a lot better than I did characters like Misaka and some of the other main characters actually.
