I like how calm he is on the ball while defenders try to take it off him. The only midfielder at Man U that can do that right now is Matic, McFred both look to pass asap and Bruno/Pogba always get mugged while trying to do too much.

Exactly. Every top team has a central midfielder who’s press resistant and can control the tempo of the game. ManUtd haven’t had one in ages since Scholes. Liverpool has Thiago. Chelsea has Kovacic. City has KDB/Gundogen. Madrid has Modric and Bayern has Kimmich. De Jong is highly needed for composure in the middle of the park. His progressive play is the biggest strength. McTominay or Fred cannot carry the ball with full comfort. Their passing range is also limited.

I saw him dribble and dominate the midfield in the U21s like that and thought "He ain't doing that in the Eredivisie, that's for sure!". Then I saw him do it there too and thought "He ain't doing that in the CL or the national team, that's for sure!". Then, when he did it with ease again at those levels, I thought "Well I be damned! I know nothing about football".

Bryan Robson-esque determination, decisive, quick, good passer and hunger to score goals. I can see why ETH wants FDJ at Utd.. United will need another like him in defence & attack I hope if Utd sign him, we put a 200m buyout clause in the contract to activate at year 3 of a 5 year contract.., then reduced down to 150m at yr 4. Utd have to become much smarter at structuring contracts to allow us to progress even a key player decides to move. Like the Haaland deal at city...£150m buyout in yr 3 of contract...they essential recoup double their investment and could buy 3 new players to help in other positions or keep him as he might be scoring crazy amounts of goals..

I'd take neves than FDJ at United. More physical, tenacious & defends better. Neves plays the ball quicker , FDJ holds the ball too long at times. Neves is PL proven, FDJ will need one year to adjust to cultural shock of fast pased physical football in PL. Still many don't adapt

But neves has also got tremendous potential under a manager like ETH to improve, he has got better right foot and long range goal scoring.. Passing technique is also phenomenal.. He is more physical and tenacious. Under a top manager neves would be on another level.. He plays a lot like scholes. Most importantly in PL you need to pass the ball forward quicker to give more time and space to attacking players, neves does that. FDJ holds it too long in moments and teams will just park the bus.. But yeah he offers better control.
