That is the seal at the top. When I pop it down the marble comes out. That is like the bottle top.

It's how they used to seal all carbonated drinks (except with the Victorian version you basically had to smash the top of the bottle to open it. You can see why they felt the need to find a better way to package carbonate drinks!)
