It's not about the cheapest juice, it's about the experience of the fresh squeezing and seeing happen. You pay for the machine, in a sense. So, it is a deal compared to buying your own to replicate the process. You pay for the novelty.

Keep in mind japan’s soil isn’t good for growing fruit like this, or crops in general, so nearly all of it is imported. Combined with Japan’s economy and you see why it’s so expensive.

It crushes them all to get juice. If it works like other cider presses it grinds the whole fruit to get the juice from every bit of pulp. My neighbors growing up, had a huge orchard of apples and peaches. Every fall her granddaughter and I went and helped pick apples and also helped run the cider press. There was a bin to wash the apples which then got run through a grinder into goop and then we ran the goop into these big bags(I think they were muslin or cotton. New each season like giant sturdy pillow cases) then they were squished in the press. For a few years it was geared down to press by hand then they bought a mechanical one that did the hard work. We would drink it fresh out of the press but ran it through a pasteurization tank for sale.
