Here we have part of a genuine herd dispersal. A group of spring calved cows that are currently milking very well averaging 32 litres/day scc 123.
These cows have all calved in the last 60 days, 12 in March, 32 in April and 11 in May. The herd runs a flying herd but have only bought in from 2 farms every year, the herds they buy in from run a medium size cow 550 kg liveweight spring block calving system and are mostly sired by Friesian sires with a small amount of cross bred breeding.
These cows look in tremendous condition, good body condition, nice bloom on their coats and udders full of milk. There are no lame cows or cows with high cell count in the group (1 cow is only milking on 3 quarters).
The herd is situated in a tb1 area and has recently passed a full herd test. There has never been any reactors found on the farm. The herd is Johnes tested with no red cows in the group.
The cows are a cross section of ages: 31 in lactations 1-4, 15 in lactations 5-6 and 8 in lactations 7-8. The longevity of these cows shows just how robust these cows are, with the older girls still looking very youthful.
The herd is currently averaging 6000 litres per year 4.76% fat and 3.52% protein produced on just 1 tonne parlour feed with just grass or grass silage. These cows do have potential to yield higher on a more intensive system.
