As soon as the rose stem is cut, it "inhales". If it is cut in the air, it will "inhale" an air bubble that will prevent it from getting any water even if the stem is later put in water. Later, it may look like this: 🥀 (emoji of drooping rose loosing petal) Rose stems, and perhaps other flowers, should be cut under water. Then, they have a better chance of looking like this: 🌹(emoji of pretty, happy rose flower) A very wise older friend of mine who had a floral business and who is a genius at arranging flowers taught me this trick, and I really value it, because, well, I'm a computer geek.
