black women and asian men are perceived very similarly in relation to their counterparts, just on the opposite side of the spectrum. The perceived stereotypes that make black men desirable(manly, masculine, aggressive, etc etc) in the dating arena become negative for black women. Its works the same way for asian women(submissive, passive, quiet, etc etc) and asian men. Hence why they is such a fetishization of black men and asian women.

Eddie Huang, I’m at your parents age and I grew up being “disciplined” also. While I do believe that it maybe necessary when major wrong is being done by the child, but to get spanked just because the grade has fallen, is ridiculous! I hope when you have kids of your own one day, you’ll never be “violent” to them. To beat your child thinking that’s training for leadership is simply, a load of craps.

I think this is representative of poor immigrants moving to "lands of opportunity", rather than just an asian thing. They do understand that as the non-dominant race you have to work way harder to be on the same level and in most asian cases to just get to 2-3 levels below those of your peers. The only thing wrong is their execution of motivation. Older generations grew up with discipline through fear and while some have assimilated, they still have issues of showing remorse, at least to your face.

I've read his memoir and frankly its quite dark at times, he frequently mentions how his dad physically abused him and was extremely strict with him. And I get that he wants that to be shown, but at the same time.. it's a sitcom. Nobody wants to watch a dad whoop his kid on camera. The show was intended to be a light hearted comedy sitcom based on his memoir, not some dark gritty drama he envisioned it to be.

The problem with America is it is difficult for a minority to have an identity of their own. Obama's presidency helped a lot in making this progress, with latino and women supreme court picks, gay rights in military. Giving place for every identity to exist has been its biggest achievement. I hope all governments across the globe let all peaceful identities that respect individual human rights exist and thrive. It will only strengthen and improve the harmony in society.

@GreaterGood510 Agree. In Obama's 8 years, race issues actually got skewed and worsened. He and Pelosi knew it. Pelosi is a blatant RACIST. He is impotent, blinded-sighted and apathetic. His wife is utterly low-class and ultimately racist.

I'm not sure what was worse for me, the stress positions where I was treated like a prisoner of war by my parents or being hit by my mom. Korean parents, am I right folks...
