Great having regular videos again. How do you like the new skid that you got last winter? How many stalls do you have for the milk cows?Have a great day.

Will the carrots make the cattle a little jumpy....

Do you have enough quota to allow for that big milk increase ?
@FreshAirFarmer2 жыл бұрын
Ya, we were under so have some room to fill up now. Plus moving calves to whole milk vs replacer will take some of that volume too.

What are the round knob on the inside of the lid on Urban for? Not on ours.
@FreshAirFarmer2 жыл бұрын
We hook up the hose to it and it sprays the water around the whole urban. So really nothing but helps with cleaning I guess.

U said ur butter fat is high I did Dairy with Holsteins 45 yr ago Got out of dairy and went to grass feed beef lamb and forest raised pigs (just beginning top get into NZ grass feed pigs) I also got into the idea organic. So here is my question Just what % are u getting of butter fat. When I sold mine I had them up to 3.8 but was feeding them a lot of eats to get that. I got out of dairy b/c it was to labor intensive for what u got out of it and I also saw the money that could be made selling meat direct to costumer. Today I also do some veggies for the ppl in my CSA. Last yr with the buying of another farm I am getting back into Dairy but with Jerseys Ayrshire. Am sell whole milk just as it comes form the cow keeping the two breeds production separate. I do some 1% and skimmed and use some Cream to make ice cram with too. Use Stevia to sweeten ice cream and my own fruit to favor it with. have a few ac of orchards planted over the years. But organic chocolate for that idea. I am a chocoholic and diabetic.

We're running about a 4.1% butterfat today Fred. In a few weeks we'll be back into new silage and I'm hoping we can get to 4.25% on it.

Would be curious what a water bill is for a dairy. Thanks.
@FreshAirFarmer2 жыл бұрын
For us, our water is ground water so we don't have a bill. In our part of the world you pay for drilling the well...which is a lot...but then don't have to pay for the water.
