There's many sites to get them. My "Guys" are Spore swaps of Oregon. They have vendors with spores in print, syringe and swab form and they also have grown cultures in plate and liquid culture form. There's also a few vendors with Gourmet edible as well 🙂

at certain times of year, the chances of randomly picking a poisonous mushroom are much higher than the 1-2% as stated on the video. Sometimes all I find are toxic mushrooms such as Deadly Galerina.

Good rule of thumb: if you come across any type of Amanita mushroom, generally best not to bother at all, even if you think it's an edible type

@@evilsharkey8954 yes. I live in BC in Canada and is always upsetting to hear about people getting hurt or dying from death caps more and more each year. No one is really educated on it and from what I remember seeing there was very little on helping educate the public on how to avoid the mushrooms in the news about it. Will get vague "grows in fields, looks similar to xyz" or something like that, but literally anyone can identify an amanita. Anyone could learn to just not mess with anything, like you said, with a bulb on the bottom for example. Dont even think it had a link to more resources on identifying mushrooms for peoples safety. Just stay safe any newbies reading this, mushrooms have a lot of power that needs to be respected and understood. They can help you survive and feed you, they can provide profound experiences, they can heal you, but they can also poison you, and they can kill you even sometimes without you realizing it until its too late. A lot of mushrooms dont have an antipoison or antitoxin. A mushroom that kills you could be confused with a psychedelic or medicinal mushroom. Be very careful and safe.
@evilsharkey8954
@evilsharkey8954 2 жыл бұрын
I’d like to add to that, since there are treatments that are showing promise. Alpha amanitin poisoning has two sick phases for a reason. The first time the toxin passes through the gut, some gets absorbed, making you sick. The kidneys filter out what they can, while the liver takes what it can’t handle and dumps it into the bile duct to dispose of. Then it passes through the intestines a second time and does the damage all over again while the liver is still suffering the punishment from the first time the poison went through. Whether or not a person will survive with their original liver often depends on how well their kidneys are working because very good kidneys can catch more of the toxin and piss it out. Unfortunately, alpha amanitin poisoning doesn’t typically show symptoms until the toxin has already been absorbed through the gut, when it’s too late to prevent damage. However, treatments can be administered before the second round of poison is dumped from the liver. Extract of milk thistle seed, also called silibinin, has been effectively used to block reuptake of the toxin on the second pass. There are drugs made from this extract, like Legalon, that can save lives and livers. If you know anyone who has accidentally eaten a deadly amanita, talk to their doctor about using medical grade silibinin. It’s approved for humans who’ve been poisoned, but it is not yet approved for dogs, so if your dog has amatoxin poisoning, ask your vet to do everything they can to get an experimental authorization for using it. One nitpick: Amanita virosa doesn’t live in North America. It’s a European species. We have at least four other similar species that are also called “destroying angel”. In the Eastern US, our most common destroying angel is A. bisporingera. A lot of NA mushrooms were misclassified as similar looking European mushrooms, when DNA tests are showing they’re different species. It doesn’t help that all destroying angels are pure white deadly amanitas of very similar proportions. I recently learned that from Alan Rockefeller. I’m sure you know him.

Why show Amanita Muscaria when making the statement, "...it's not only poisonous amanitas..." - this immediately gives the false impression that one is looking at one of those poisonous amanitas when, in fact, that is not the case.

Statements like this cause more harm than good. Anamita muscaria are definitely poisonous. They contain ibotenic acid, which is a neurotoxin. It literally kills brain cells.

Plants don’t, either, which is why so many of them make themselves hairy, pointy, stingy, oily, awful tasting, and/or poisonous. At least most really toxic plants have the decency to taste awful, too. People who’ve survived death cap poisoning have said they were good (not great, though).

Because by then it has established itself and presumably have a strong immune system. And after spreading it's spore it will rot down as it's goal of spreading its spored has been reached, so it won't matter that much.

Yeah I have been reading recently and it sounds like those puffballs ARE edible which surprised me too lol. I always thought it was a blast to smash them when I came across one tromping through the forest as a kid. But you want to pick them before they get to the papery stage when they're still white and meaty.
@johnandjacquelinewarren9979
@johnandjacquelinewarren9979 2 жыл бұрын
I did just see a different video that said something about a pigskin puffball that is poisonous, but I think it also had a distinct appearance. Just thought it was worth pointing out that perhaps not ALL puffballs are edible like I thought, but my current impression is still that most are... I'm pretty new to this though. But if you search for puffballs that should get you headed in the direction of more solid information if you want to research further yourself 🙂 (I love that they're literally just called puffballs.)
@johnandjacquelinewarren9979
@johnandjacquelinewarren9979 2 жыл бұрын
According to a quick Google search, it sounds like the pigskin puffball is technically an "earthball" not a "puffball" since it doesn't have that hole in the top and spread out a puff of spores but just breaks apart when crushed. And it turns out, as there typically is, there is a whole lot more to this rabbit hole than I thought. And I don't have time to dig further right now, but hopefully that at least sort of helps 😅
