This is also why people who need Antifungal drugs often need lab monitoring - because the drugs metaphorically speaking can't tell the difference between an animal and fungal cell

Taste can actually really help sometimes! I've been getting more into mushrooms but I'm always hesitant to eat them. I found some yellowish brown russulas and I couldn't tell exactly which species they were. I tasted a tiny bit and spit it out, and it had a mildly spicy taste, meaning it was most likely Russula Ochroleuca! I haven't been sick at all in the days afterwards and I've tried it with a few more mushrooms since then. Bonus Fun Fact: placing store bought mushrooms in the sun (but beware of intense heat, indirect sun works) for a few hours before cooking them can actually cause them to produce vitamin D like we do, which you then eat.

Anyone's who tried to be a vegetarian is likely to be aware of the satiety and luxurious "meatiness" that comes from having a mushroom burger. Hard to understand anyone thinking of mushrooms as in any way "light" or insignificant. They're a presence. I eat chicory flowers and dandelion flowers, and I suppose you could think of them as light. But mushrooms seem like solidity itself. Mushrooms are amazing, and the only block to going whole-hog after them is the danger. This video has been so very helpful because it's renewed my desire to really learn about mushrooms. I've harvested a few, like turkey tails and puffballs, but have had to let go so, so many others, knowing that the odds were that they were as delicious and amazing as they looked. Good to hear that the odds are better than I thought. I will study hard. Also, good to hear about not wiping them out by eating them. I feel bad stealing dandelions from bees and flies, not to mention from the dandelion plant, and I have to talk myself out of worrying about that. For two or three weeks, there are always more flowers.

Hey! Editor feedback, but everytime you show a mushroom, could you then also show its name? I would bet that all of us are still trying to get better at identifying, and it would help so much that we can see the name EVERY time you show one, so we can really get it screwed into our heads 🙂 Could also include contextual info, is it edible? @@fish9468 My personal experience says yes and I've read articles that corroborate the increase in BP concern. Probably has a lot to do with your age, physical condition, and any predisposition you may have to hypertension. I've read you shouldn'y take 'shrooms if your Systolic pressure is consistently over 140. I've also read articles about potential damage to heart valves, but I dismiss this for obviously the frequency you'd have to do mushrooms to have this problem is ridiculously high. I'm honestly not spreading "chromosome damage"-like unsubstantiated fears and disinformation. These risks are very low, but something to consider- especially in older Psychonauts -

you could always learn about foraging easy to id mushrooms like morels, chicken of the woods, ect. Many choice edible mushrooms dont have many look a likes that are dangerous, and have characteristics that are super easy to use to figure out if its the correct mushroom. Would help you ease into it, and feel more comfortable with the process of IDing mushrooms. Thats actually how i learned, and i have yet to eat anything wild that has caused me any problems.
