Synopsis:
Cheng Shao Shang is a young girl who was forced to grow up alone after most of her family had to leave to fight in a bloody war. Thus she becomes stubborn and untrusting. She fends for herself in a town populated by people like her, who have been left behind by the war.
One day, a talented and powerfu general named Ling Bu Yi comes to the town - and falls in love with her at first sight. He resolves to marry her, even though it will cause him no end of problems if he decides to pursue this union. She also warns him that she doesn’t trust him, and that her stubborn personality might not be suitable for the wife of a general. But Ling Bu Yi also has deep secrets, and there are facts about his true identity that even he does not know. It shows what a lonely life he leads. His only interaction, aside from A'Fei and A'Qi, is with the emperor, the BAG (Black Armored Guards) and the court. He is definitely lacking social skills, even for that period of time. Gen Cheng's family, as jovial and relaxed they are, is not ready for the Ling Buyi "invasion" of their normal life.

Like… I am rewatching this show. And my heart just shattered during the breakfast scene because Ling Buyi literally came there with so much happiness! I literally teared up! That man just wants a family- a BIG HAPPY FAMILY! When you realize that his entire purpose and goal in the show is to build a family!🥺🥺🥺😩😩😩😭😭😭 He was so nervous and just wanted them to see him as someone worthy of family. When he said he is easy to get along with, I realized that he actually is. The issue is that so many people come to him as his enemy, trying to get something from him, or out of pity. And then expect what? For him to celebrate their attempts… He is a very loving person but that amount of love can just as transfer into rage when he sees fit. But he is loving and just wants to be loved.

I couldn't agree more! It's heartbreaking that he grew up without a big happy family and has had to steel his heart against the lack of it (as well as protect himself from malicious people in the palace/political environment). I suspect that if his family tragedy had never happened and he grew up with a close and loving family like he was supposed to, he would have turned out very differently too. Just as fair and honourable as he is now but a lot gentler and possibly cheeky in demeanour. Okay, I might be thinking of Ashile Sun 😂

the tragedy is that he doesn't just want a family. He longs for happiness and a nice, normal family like someone who never had one. And the Chengs are actually a very nice family, except for the dysfunctional treatment of Niao Niao (which made it so much harder for her). But to him having a family is more like a mirage, something he hardly dares actually dream of for himself.

I really ENJOYED it when the GPA slapped that whinnie little wretch in the face. The fact that niao niao "SHOWED HIM THE LIGHT" was the slickest thing I have ever seen and, she also turned him around when it came to messing up her marriage and he had no clue that she did anything to him in fact what makes this situation priceless was that he thought he outsmarted her. Gen. Ling has my vote for most hilarious serious character in this series. Although he does things seriously, it's the way in which he presents himself, and how he protects his little lady with the black armored guards. His demeanor is created to scare the 💩out of people, but to Sheoshang, he's so gentle and caring as a good husband should be. I think if I could be reincarnated, I would love to go back to these times and find myself a nice icy general to fall in love with and have a wonderful life with. I wouldn't be scared to learn new things, and be happy to fight alongside him to protect the country. Ahh.. such dreams is what keeps us old women young... lol!!!

I do love this story. I love its humor and I think most people can relate to CSS and her uncertainty in regards to rules and trying to do the right thing. In thus episode I did gave a laugh at the family's reaction with the soldiers heralding the approach of Ling Buyi. I too think that Leo Wu is an amazing actor. I also think that the whole cast is amazing too.

I think we all can agree that our favorite scene of this episode is @30min. Although LBY’s men try to coach him to be less scary and CSS’s brothers want to teach him a lesson, speak of the devil, in marches LBY as intimidating AF! And the joke! OMG!
