Synopsis:
Cheng Shao Shang is a young girl who was forced to grow up alone after most of her family had to leave to fight in a bloody war. Thus she becomes stubborn and untrusting. She fends for herself in a town populated by people like her, who have been left behind by the war.
One day, a talented and powerfu general named Ling Bu Yi comes to the town - and falls in love with her at first sight. He resolves to marry her, even though it will cause him no end of problems if he decides to pursue this union. She also warns him that she doesn’t trust him, and that her stubborn personality might not be suitable for the wife of a general. @@sherryannefelix3707 One thing I have come to realize about NN’s mother is her difficulties in raising a daughter are twofold. 1) NN is just like her! So that is part of the problem 2) Mom is a general! She can handle the boys better. She is not a flowery, pretty in pink kinda gal! She reminds me in some aspects of BQ in Eternal Love, who grew up as a disciple of the God of War. Raising a child is something she had to grow into. However, she had a son so it wasn’t as bad as having a girl. I’m hoping before it’s all over, the guilt of the parents and the anger of the daughter will go through a maturation and healing process. This has been one of the best productions of the year and we haven’t even finished season 1! I hope it is nominated for an award!

The tragedy that He Shaojun experienced is no little thing. As she said to Shaoshang after she beheaded the prince, she cannot afford to offend anyone, a sure sign that she has realized how important support is to her and her little brother, plus everyone on the He clan who now depends on her. You will note that Luo Yao made a stand on her behalf after the engagement to Shaoshang was canceled. He said that it is the 2nd chamber who will be in charge of the He clan and its army leaving no room for the 1st chamber to question him.

I love that although her mother played favourites with niao niao and her cousin that they still have a good relationship. I really liked the little scene in the end when niao niao takes her cousins hand to calm her down. Although it is very sad for her how her mother shows way more love to her cousin, niao niao is protective of her "sister" despite the family situation I love her character and that they don't become enemies because of jealously

For real. It shows true maturity. But after all, Niao Niao did grow up with her cousin, she's actually the only nice person in her family she met before she was 15. And she doesn't lie to herself, she knows that, even though her cousin is meek and not good at standing up to bullies even for herself, she would help her Niao Niao in distress. Actually, she more than tells him to help. She tells ss asked for outer coat which code for 'they are attacking her reputation and questioning her honor'. That is why LB reacted so angrily. Had he not reputed such accusation with that intensity, it would have followed her for life. They would called her a loose woman for getting engaged so fast again. So he was trying to kill that thought right in the beginning.

She won the prize for being very smart, since he being the top scholar had written the one she solved. He loves her mind, even though he calls her stupid! Also, tossing the ball is a mating ritual of some kind, in which someone picks a mate. Her tossing it back, clearly indicated that he never had a chance with her. His ego is also impacted because he is among the top most desired bachelors in town. But she doesn’t give him a second glance! As the general indicated in this episode, he can tell he is interested in SS because otherwise, he always looks down on everyone else. In other words, he is very arrogant. And she is so adorable! I’m loving the general, because he loves, honors and protects his woman. Also, he has a take no prisoners attitude, so buyer beware! Last note, the scholar is becoming just like his master! Who is obsessed with SS’s sister in law!

They weren’t aware of their (LB & NN) previous interactions, because there is a communication issue and they were genuinely concerned with the happiness of their child. Another viewer wrote some of the historical significance of the real life characters and that helped me tremendously understand some of the behind the scenes background. Historically and possibly on future episodes, we may be exposed to as NN said, “his murderous aura.” We are looking through the romantic eyes of both the novel and from a modern perspective. The parents were really concerned with her welfare. Why else would they wholeheartedly defy the emperor’s decree and chance death? That alone showed a great deal of love…they were jeopardizing both family and reputation. Just a thought….
