Synopsis:
Cheng Shao Shang is a young girl who was forced to grow up alone after most of her family had to leave to fight in a bloody war. Thus she becomes stubborn and untrusting. She fends for herself in a town populated by people like her, who have been left behind by the war.
One day, a talented and powerfu general named Ling Bu Yi comes to the town - and falls in love with her at first sight. He resolves to marry her, even though it will cause him no end of problems if he decides to pursue this union. She also warns him that she doesn’t trust him, and that her stubborn personality might not be suitable for the wife of a general. But Ling Bu Yi also has deep secrets, and there are facts about his true identity that even he does not know. When Shaoshang gets mad later it's not for a past wrong or tragedy; it's because their loved seemed not have ever actually existed; every single moment she had experienced with him was shadowed in lies. Every understanding she had of him, every episode, every act on his part or comment he made, she had felt it in a fake light. Like here, she thought he'd gone out of his mind just for her. But he hadn't. He was certainly mad at those people and wanted to take revenge on them, but at the end of the day it was an excuse to get the proof against Marquis Yue. This is just one of many examples. Like every time Shaoshang thought Ling Buyi had a hard time trusting people because his "father" had betrayed his "mother", but then she found out that was not at all what was eating at him. When she figures his true identity she also realises how his lies permeated everything in their relationship. And she gave him several openings to come clean with her, but in the end he never did. She had to do all the revelation by herself. He was going to execute his plan and die that night without even explaining himself to her. So much for being one with your lover.

One of the most important aspects of war is psyching out your enemy. He lost that advantage, made himself a laughing stock, and did not care one bit. The fact is, he is a sociopath, with an identity crisis, who happened to fall in love and learned empathy late in his life. Based off that, it would have been almost impossible for him to turn away from his vengeance. I say almost impossible, because there is always a choice. He made a terribly wrong one. Shaoshang also has her issues, stemming from a lifetime of sustained abuse, so the abandonment thing was always going to be a massive elephant in the room. It would have come up sometime in the future, with similar results. Ultimately, they are both quite alike, and really do need each other to heal. The time spent apart was also very necessary for growth and maturity.

I love the mothering relationship between Shaoshang and Empress Shen'an. It was everything Shao Shang needed and wanted from her mother. In this same episode Niao Niao's mother felt the absence of her daughter but still referred to her as a trouble maker. She refused to see her as vulnerable and loving. This is the most heart wrenching part of this episode.

LBY didn't plan to get beat to get her to confess her love, he destroyed the Censorate, knowing the emperor would punish him by having him fix the Censorate to appease the officials. He wanted to this so he could find documents that would prove Marquis Yue was guilty. The emperor was the one who added in the beating as punishment in order to get Shaoshang to confess her love; this was not what LBY planned for.

This is my favorite episode yet!!! The Emperor and Zhiseng are so conniving and manipulative!!! But the goal was achieved...that was some great acting by everyone, especially in Zhiseng's bedroom!! His face became so soft and tender when Shasaong came into the room! I don't know how she does it but Zhao Lusi has such great chemistry with all her leading men and she has quite a list!

Shaoshang,, the emperor, and even Buyi definitely deserve several awards for Buyi's punishment.. emperor broke her down to the core of her heart and soul to finally admit her love for him, she had me in tears, the damn emperor had laughing so hard, and ea time Buyi was struck his pain stricken face had me remembering my childhood . If I was watching this part in public they would have thought I'd lost my mind. crying one second laughing the next second and then feeling the pain each time they struck Buyi's sexy booty... talk about 3 different emotions hitting at once..

I like the “pretend act” of the Emperor’s punishment handed over to General Ling Buyi/ Wu Lei. The Emperor is an actor’s actor. So hilarious of his funny demeanour. I cannot stop laughing at 😂7:26 when Shaoshang was having a conversation with the Emperor's eunuch where she was trying to defend General Ling because he punished those 8 officials without asking for the Emperor's authorization. Shaoshang was even saying the Emperor is wrong. All of a sudden, the Emperor shouted and said that now, it was his fault and if Shaoshang was not happy to enter his chamber. This scene was so funny. Shaoshan blamed the Emperor was wrong. The Emperor was never wrong and the Emperor can even behead Shaoshang for saying anything bad against the Emperor. This Emperor is kind and righteous. I like this emperor. 😍😍😍
