Synopsis:
Cheng Shao Shang is a young girl who was forced to grow up alone after most of her family had to leave to fight in a bloody war. Thus she becomes stubborn and untrusting. She fends for herself in a town populated by people like her, who have been left behind by the war.
One day, a talented and powerfu general named Ling Bu Yi comes to the town - and falls in love with her at first sight. He resolves to marry her, even though it will cause him no end of problems if he decides to pursue this union. She also warns him that she doesn’t trust him, and that her stubborn personality might not be suitable for the wife of a general. @@cynthiacater5825 what I am sad about is the fact that the Empress is very much aware of her children's shortcomings but she still cannot punish them for their wrongdoing and bad attitudes, but instead puts herself down for not raising them properly thus punishing herself. The children, on the other hand, cannot even help her by doing something good; instead, they cause more problems for her. Here, as sad as the truth is, you can see the difference between Concubine Yue and the Empress. Concubine Yue has no problem whatsoever having to punish her children, if they are wrong.

Only if you’re fortunate to marry someone you love. Aside from his majesty with consort yue and buyi with niao niao, none of the characters are happily married to their spouse because it wasn’t their choice to begin with. Which is fitting for the title of this series, you can search the entire galaxy and not be able to find this kind of love.

It just doesn't do Shaoshang any good because she has her bias against her mother (it isn't an unnatural bias) and she has little opportunity to witness it. Shaoshang has little formal education in relationships by either teaching or example until she is 15 years old. WE can speculate that she witnessed her Uncle and Aunt, but with how her Aunt treated her Uncle, and her eventual fate, we can not exactly calll that a good example.

Again, I must commend the script writers for upending so many C-Drama tropes. In this we have a competent Emperor whose wives aren't infighting, then Niao Niao's family being supportive of each other is a breath of fresh air, however, the most important one is the FL who is such a badass. I hope this series wins all the awards.

I’m still watching this and the more I watch, the more outstanding Wu Lei acting is. He portrayed Ling Buyi’s Character so well. You can feel his characters love for Shaoshang. His hatred for the men responsible for killing his father and a entire town. His admiration for the emperor and his sincere gratefulness towards the empress. For someone so young to be able to portray all that is mind blowing. Zhao Lusi also plays her character well. But her character has been written with the complex and often conflicting emotions that Ling Buyi’s has. An outstanding drama that deserves the whole production crew to be rewarded 🎉👏🏻🥰

I was very impressed with LuSi's controlled, then uncontrolled sobbing in the aftermath of being bullied. It was very well done, with her trying to cry, then the more ZiSheng praised her, the more she was unable to stop the flow of tears--I felt her anger, her humiliation, frustration, every single sob seemed so real. Then she added a little humor with the "hold me tighter, not so tight, I can't breathe" moment. And lastly, she pulled herself together, ShaoShang-style, put on a smile and lied that she just missed home. Her expression said it all--she didn't want ZiSheng to avenge for her; she was going to take care of it. I really really loved the acting of that whole scene.

No the first brother and his wife are in the same area as the 2nd uncle went after he left home. The brother works for the emperor and won't be returning to the capital this season at least. (He's like a forever unseen character just like the emperor's other children--we only see #2, 3 & 5 princes and 2, 3, and 5 princesses. Where are the other kids?)

Love how this drama falls back on the age-old "parent card." It transcends race, culture, and class for there to be parents that treat all or some of their children with disrespect, neglect, abandonment (often leading to dysfunction in the children) and then pull out the "I care" card to deflect when called out. Real issue that still doesn't get the attention it deserves.

Zisheng never shows his affection for the king. I never heard him say something nice to him. He used actions to tell the king how much he cared for him. His career and half of his decisions in life were for him. They have such a deep love. Ling Buyi knows how to play the game. He's forcing Marquis Yue to take action. It's a brilliant plan...I love the little smirk he gives right before he turns his head. It looks like the game is afoot.....to the victor goes the spoils. The crown princess is making it impossible for me to sympathize with her. She's treacherous. I really hope NN is starting to see through her little act. She's trying to make things hard for the crown prince's ex...and in doing so she's digging her own grave. She wants everyone to be just as miserable as she is...I feel bad for his ex...she's being abused by her husband because of the crown princess..her devious smile is going to turn into a frown when they finally figure out the truth. Wow...the crown prince isn't as useless as I thought. He's stupid that's for sure but at least he's finally using his brain. I'm so tired of the crown princess woe is me attitude. I knew she was heartless...but damn she even set her husband up as well. The crown prince was smart to investigate what was going on....now he knows the truth. Wow...he went there...telling her that nobody has a good opinion of her. These two should've never been married. I feel bad for the crown prince for having to deal with this crazy ass woman. This is a good time for NN to remember what LB told her before about the Crown Princess and the East Palace, and that she shouldn't get carried away by the surface the Crown Princess is showing her. Obviously, it is not something that LB has the right to divulge to Shaoshang before because it is a sensitive issue.

She treats people according to how they treat her/since the crown prince and princess has shown her kindness...she's willing to do the same. Buyi knows the ends and outs of the palace/how things work so he's able to see past the superficial act the crown princess displays. Hopefully she'll learn to see things more clearly as she spends more time by the Empress side.

all who can't lie down before his majesty on a bed is bat. only aarif lee in princess silver was bad enough to be escorted on a bed before his majesty. this drama when it finish, i gots to start from top to how it nice. i love leo wu from long ballad, but i can't remember my first zhao lusi drama, it definitely wasn't long ballad. this maybe the drama of 2022 racking up a lot of awards. i ain't gonna lie we all know zhao lusi is superb, but leo wu/wu lei's impressive acting in this drama shocked and earned him a lot more fans except me (I've known since long ballad).
