In my opinion the ex-wife is looking at the past with rose tinted glasses. Her ex-husband wasn't a good guy that turned bad and started making bad choices. He was always a bad guy he just started wearing a mask to meet her in college and he continued to wear that mask until after they got married and then she got pregnant. After he easily pushed her into being a stay at home wife then he got what he wanted and didn't have to wear the mask all the time and started showing his true face.
