Yep carbon dioxide is product of fully oxidized stuff in a fire and carbon monoxide for anything that is not fully burned. As cave fires will have limited oxygen available they likely to produce lots of carbon monoxide. Monoxide is flat out poison and dioxide at very high level poison. Both replacing the oxygen is bad and many places in a cave especially natural will have limited oxygen supply. And this a reason flamethrowers great at clearing buildings, bunkers and tunnels because if you don't get cooked good chance lack of oxygen and the monoxide can get you. So many story writers totally ignorant of it. Note in D&D way back in 70's it decided most Dungeons have magical air circulation systems to prevent problems. Still if you were in a smart party thus cheese like Goblin Slayer you did try to "smoke em out" along with all sorts of ways to avoid doing the content with living creature in them. Fact 10 ft polls and rope standard equipment as dungeons tended to be all trap might be a reason players in local areas really went for cheese. I remember we more disassembled Dungeons walls, ceilings, everything at times.

So if he hadn't brought it, the party would be taking a different path. And if Man-god had to choose which one he wants to kill, Roxy or Paul, he would pick Roxy. Why?
