Yes, it used to be "Smokey The Bear" While in elementary school our teacher made the comment that the forest Service had changed his name to "Smokey Bear" before going on our field trip the forest service headquarters. As soon as we entered through the front door of the building there was a cardboard picture of Smokey pointing at us kids that was 6'0 tall introducing himself as Smokey Bear, with his iconic speech, "Only you can prevent forest fires".

Smokey the Bear was a mascot for an advertising campaign here in the US some time ago. His famous quote on the commercials was, "Only YOU can prevent forest fires." Basically, a way to try to stop people from tossing lit cigarette's out of the car window and to extinguish camp fires when done.

I Love how they even have Smokey the Bear signs... All over America's National Forest. I grew up in Ohio, and now I live in Kentucky and Smokey is everywhere, even came to our school when we were kids. Saying "Only you can prevent forest fires" 😂❤ good times..

That is Smokey the Bear. Back in the day he was a real bear that got rescued from a forest fire in New Mexico, but after the real bear died they put a guy in a bear costume lol.

yes you right George that is smokey the bear. he was first introduced by the Forest Service in 1944 by artist Albert Staehle The poster shows a bear pouring a bucket of water on a campfire. And then later on 2 arguably more famous posters the ones that most people all know and recognize one of which reads "ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT FOREST FIRES" and the other while only having two words "ONLY YOU" equally if not more powerful depicting a stern smokey the bear with an accusing jabbing finger conveying the same message.
