-TIME STAMPS-
0:00 Recap
0:32 Major 1 4 5 Triads
4:46 Diatonic Application
8:44 Minor 1 4 5 Triads
11:17 Triad/Scale Connection
Here we continue the chord melody series by building on our harmonic foundations.
These harmonic foundations, based around the 1 4 5 triad concept, will allow you to harmonize melody over all the chords in a natural major or minor key.
It's a simple way of playing through a melody in multiple parts. Turning a single part melody/lead line into a harmony/chord based melody line.
Using this accessible concept, I've had a lot of fun harmonizing vocal and instrumental melodies from famous songs. It's surprising just how versatile this method is.
Not only is it a great solo tool (i.e. for finger style playing), it also gives you the ability to accompany existing music in a harmonically richer way.
I hope you find it valuable.

Mate, you are by far, the most ARTICULATE music teacher I ever came across. Whilst there are many great teachers, each with their own methodology to take us all to the same destination, (sound understanding of musicology, in it's entirety). Your straight forward PRACTICAL explaining, and delivering on REAL results is very much appreciated. Your Australian friend Kain.

I wasn’t ready for fretjam tutorials a few years ago. As I come back to them today, after a time of learning and playing with others of greater skill than I, it seems clear, concise, and very applicable to where I am currently in terms of skills and fretboard understanding. This is a wealth of information for those who are ready for this level of instruction.

Just simply amazing! I’ll probably spend weeks digesting this and weeks incorporating this lesson in my playing. You bring to my mind that theory taught like this is enabling not limiting creativity. Your suggestions to listen to and become better familiar with the actual sounds of these triads is priceless! Thank you so much!!!

I've learned so much from fretjam's videos even though I have so much still to learn. This video is still beyond my capabilities even though I understand a good deal of the theory. Like others I will continue to come back further along my guitar playing journey in the hope it all eventually sinks in. Top tip: Save Fretjam videos to one of your youtube playlists and you can just keep going back again and again to improve your understanding.
