Fantastic video. I'm using a dado stack for the first time and this answered all the questions I had when I first unpacked the same set. I'm sure some people will say you talk and move through this too fast but I find the pacing perfect with my thoughts. Thanks for making this video.

Hey Gilbert, great question. A 10in table saw generally means it accepts a 10in diameter blade. These are smaller than that so, in general, it will fit within the design envelope of a 10in table saw. That being said, every saw is different. I would recommend checking in your owners manual to confirm that your saw can accept a dado stack. The diameter may be fine but the added blade thickness may be an issue.

I have this same dado stack. The half inch configuration doesn't leave me with a half inch groove. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Also, anyway not to have the teeth dig higher than the chipper? Looks off when you can see the grove head on.

Is it looser than a true 1/2”? I find mine is a little large, slip fit for sure. If I’m looking for a tight fit, I’ll remove a chipper and add the spacers/washers in until I get the fit I like. And no, that’s actually a design feature, I thought it was an issue at first too. They do that so you get a crisp inner corner when you’re fitting boards together.

Thank you! An excellent video. Do you use some kind of oil coating on all the blades and spaces to prevent rust when not in use? Or do use a large zip bag to keep the set in to reduce moisture? I just purchased this set.

Great question! I don’t use anything. I believe the body is stainless steel so I haven’t had any rusting issues and I live in the pacific NW which is quite wet.

I noticed that the setup instructions are messed up on the website for example on the sd200 chart the setup guide for 11/32" gives you something closer to 15/32" try to keep the chart that comes with the blade

Mine actually came with them. I think they were the original sheet metal, just painted. I actually have been tempted to strip the green off because it marks my workpieces.

So I have the same stack the SD 208 and I must be doing something wrong because I followed the directions to set it up for a 3/8 inch cut and it is just enough off of a 3/8 in cut then when I got to my last cut instead of having a blank space it left a piece almost 1/8 of an inch wide. And the problem is the way the pieces are supposed to put together I now have a 1/8-in piece on top of one side and a 1/8-in piece on the bottom of the other side so they don't fit together properly. So I took a micrometer and I measured the dado stack and it is not 0.375in at the edge of the cutting blade to the edge of the cutting blade it is actually 0.34in and that is definitely not 3/8 of an inch. Any suggestions from anybody?

Hey Vernon! From the stack chart it looks like it’s supposed to be both blades plus a single chipper, just to eliminate this option, can you confirm that’s the stack up you’re using? Also, to confirm, is it cutting to wide or too narrow?

I got the 6" version... mainly because my saw is under 3 HP and I don't need the extra cut depth capacity the 8" provides. It takes less power to run a smaller blade. A tip... *always* measure your stock with some dial calipers and see just how wide the cut needs to be. Do not assume the chart on the dado set will be what you need to set your stack to. Plywood is almost never actually the size they claim when sold and usually a bit narrower. ;)

What I've seen is that plywood isn't exactly 1/2" I'm unsure of its 15/32 or 7/15. I'll find out today. I just gotta figure out which are the spacers vs shims. Smh

You’re totally right, most of the plywood I’ve used is slightly undersized from the nominal callout. Regarding the spacers and shims, the spacers all have a uniform thickness and are very thick. The shims have a range and go from paper thin to just thinner than the spacers.

Great job. Freud did not cover 1/10 of what you covered with the blades. As you mention at the beginning, dado blades can be dangerous and there are lots of safety precautions to follow to ensure safety. I'm kind of surprised that Freud does not include ample safety precautions. They obviously didn't seek the advice of their lawyer on this one. Thank you for doing Freud’s job FOR them.

In fairness to Freud...they did provide instructions in several languages in tiny 6 pt type on a gray background. In my haste to start using my new shiny toy I overlooked it, thinking it was all legal schmegal stuff. However, your video was far better advice and explanations. Once again, great job. Your video was a far better way to explain all the safety measures needed with any dado blades.

Thanks for the video. I just ordered this dado set and a new throat plate for my vintage Craftsman. Looks like this will square cut great, but I thought in your demonstration there was a little too much play on the cut. Have you had any issues, or was the ply width not quite ½" ?

You are totally right, my 1/2” dado is a sliding fit, not a friction fit. For me, this is fine, but I can totally understand why this would be too loose for some people.

Very nice demo but it pains me to see you wearing the ring while working with the table saw. This observation comes from someone who has had an accident where my wedding band caught an edge and sliced through my finger. Best to have the ring off before something unexpected happens when using a tool.

I thought the blades were supposed to naturally touch and roll back into each other. That way if it bumps something hard they don't give way 🤷

I wouldn’t recommend it because you run the risk of each tooth supporting the next which risks damage to the tooth. It also evens out the cutting load on your blade. I haven’t run into any issues with my stack components rotating during a cut.
