One last thing. I sanded the finish off of the Berserker axe I bought, and I noticed very minor pitting of the metal. This is caused due to the mold not being hot enough, or the metal when poured not being hot enough. Also I can see the mold lines now, with the finish removed. And yes, you can heat treat and temper cast axes. So I think what might have happened with your Freyr axe, is it might not have been heat treated/tempered right. We may never know.

You’re probably right! Sounds like that could be the potential culprit. I’ll see about testing that temper on the edge at least if it stays here with me. Might try fixing it up. We shall see. Wait for a rainy day when I’m all caught up on everything else

The Berserker Axe is a much better design, plus easier to put a handle on. That's why I bought the Berserker axe.

I may. I actually saw a review that someone else sent their axe back under the warranty and the axe they received back was worse. He posted pictures and detailed his account. Honestly if no one wants it, I might just slowly grind that one side back down and get it as straight as I can and use it as a practice axe for my sons or something.

Yea I went out of my comfort zone and bought this axe because the design. I usually get cold steel friction fit for 20 dollars less. With the cold steel I spent 15 min in shop to edge then go beat the ever lovin tar out of it and it keeps goin. My CS pipe hawk I got when I was 16 is still holding on and in 32 now. I have thrown and chopped and hammered nails with it. I will only buy cold steel axes, hard lesson learned

I got to thinking, maybe the eye deformed from throwing it? Just an thought? Um, I believe the Freye, and Berserker CRKT axes are made in Taiwan :) Most likely from the same factory that makes the Cold Steel Tomahawks. Tell it like it is Brother. I will stick with you.

I’ll be honest, I got about 12 throws (roughly) before it broke. And most of them were softer throws with me just warming up. When I went back and looked at the handle that broke, I got it pushed back as best I could to film the last video. I noticed the handle was twisted almost in a way to follow the bit. I noticed a slight twist in the forging to begin with but that handle really followed the line of the axe. Making it seem more minor than it actually was. I didn’t notice it. And that’s on me. But it was easy to see once off that handle

Same. I bought a cheap CRKT knife from bass pro years ago for our tackle box we got for the kids. It’s held up over the years. But you’re right, this axe just doesn’t work for me or what I would expect from them.
