This week as a special event, we are thrilled to share with you a pre-recorded interview recently filmed in Japan with Lindsey Anne.
Lindsey Anne, an embroidery artist based in Tokyo, Japan, is known for her intricate work with tiny stitches. She specialises in using second-hand or vintage textiles, giving them new life by adorning them with small, geometric stitches that add colour and texture. Her aim is to catalogue the passage of time through her artwork and explore the relationship between colour and form.
Lindsey frequently visits antique markets in and around Tokyo when she searches for materials. While many tourists and foreigners tend to purchase expensive boro-style textiles, Lindsey takes advantage of the neglected scraps and offcuts that others overlook. She haggles down to acquire these discarded pieces, which she then incorporates into her artwork.
Lindsey's stitching technique can be described as repetitive and abstract mark-making. Each stitch is meticulously crafted, contributing to the overall composition of her pieces. Through her art, Lindsey brings attention to the beauty and significance of textiles, showcasing their potential even in their most minor remnants.
Enjoy the intimate conversation where you get a close-up look at Lindsey's current obsession with stitching abstracted versions of all 78 Taro cards!! We also discuss Instagram and what works for her, synesthesia and how music plays a major part in her art-making and even the top three places to visit for textile artists in Tokyo!
We would like to thank Lindsey Anne for sharing their time, artwork and knowledge with us.
