Welcome back to Friday Feature Artist!
This year, we're mixing it up with both pre-recorded interviews and live interviews, giving us more flexibility to bring you the world's very best fibre and mixed media artists.
We are kicking it off this year with the incredibly talented artist and Fibre Arts Take Two student, Zara Muradyan!
Zara’s approach to art is deeply personal and reflective. Working primarily with fibre and mixed media, she creates art that captures the rhythmic flow of her thoughts, often materialising as landscapes viewed from her window. Her work is heavily influenced by her emotional and physical experiences, particularly during health-related challenges and treatments. This process leads Zara to explore the intricate connection between her emotional state and physical responses.

Wow!! I am blown away! The discussion of your instructor and how the brain works after repeating a sketch or stitch hundreds of times before your personal mark comes through is what I needed to hear. I have been searching for my style, my voice for so long and not realizing that each time I stopped I cheated myself out of its discovery. Thank you!

Thank you, Zara, for sharing your story and your insights. I was deeply moved by your interview and your beautiful work. Health challenges certainly change one's perspective on life and what is important to us. I'm glad to hear that you are doing well and that to see that you have found such a beautiful way to express your emotional landscape for yourself and for all of us. I still have many pieces of cloth from Claire's class that I haven't done anything with. You have definitely inspired me and many others, I'm sure, to start working on the first 100 pieces to find our way. Again, many thanks! 🙏♥

So good to see you again after the break! Great interview! QUESTION:🤷🏼‍♀️🧐 I did not understand what Zara meant by “using earth pigments” in her work. Does that mean she rubs soil into the fabric before she stitches? TIA❤️💕

Hello Janice. Thank you for your beautiful words. To answer your question about the earth pigments I have to refer you to the Fiber Art Takes Two course with Claire Benn. Her use of earth pigments and soya milk to bind the pigments to the cloth had led me to explore this material and embrace it to the fullest.
