"Skydiver refuses to even try to clear line twists for several minutes" would be a more appropriate title. Also, it seems pretty clear that the reason for the line twists is a super sharp turn during the deployment. Being head high during a wingsuit deployment is definitely not a problem, it's the preferred body position (during a flare) for a lot of wingsuiters. Turning during deployment is a problem though, no matter where your head is pointing.
@dalesfailssagaofasuslord7833 жыл бұрын
I don’t wingsuit but it seems like every deployment is meant to be somewhat head high due to the flare. I’ve heard guys that fly some of the powerful suits say the flare is so aggressive that it gives them some of the softest openings they’ve ever head in any skydive,wingsuit or not.
@stephanlude59513 жыл бұрын
Right.... but he had enough luck. The twist was symmetric. So he had time enough and could fly straight. Maybe he even could have grabbed over the twist and steer and flare... maybe not. But the shitty deployment suggests that he is not very experienced. @amalekited3 жыл бұрын
Nah, they don’t recommend that anymore. You keep them together to lessen tension and move the twist as low as possible to make scissor kicking out as easy as possible.
@DominiHarling3 жыл бұрын
@@amalekited admittedly I haven’t been skydiving in 20 years but when I did get my lines tangled once I was able to pull them apart while kicking which caused me to rotate and get the lines untangled much quicker. Then two cells in chute hadn’t inflated so I just pulled to brake which cause my chute to fully open and I must have had 2000-2500 feet of altitude still to descend safely with a healthy open chute. I’m not sure why it stresses the lines anymore than it does when the parachute first opens.

That’s how I have always been taught. Not sure how tension from scissor kicking is worst then the opening force. (Read other comment), when my lines get caught up it takes less than 20 secs to open correctly when doing that.
@amalekited3 жыл бұрын
@@hemp64731 No, scissor kicking doesn’t cause tension. The difference in training is only whether to pull risers apart VS push them together. Old=apart. New=push. Why? Pulling the risers apart causes tension that keeps the twist high in the lines. If the twist is high, your scissor kicks will be less effective than if the twist was at the bottom near the risers. You can move the twist low by keeping the risers together, not pulling apart. With the new method you’ll notice you’ll get more untwist with each kick. Both methods work. I’m just the messenger.

I'm going to take my skydive license very soon, and I have a question : it is correct to cut away at this altitude? or he should have done this before?
@diegorodriguezbaquero91703 жыл бұрын
He should've cut away at 2000-2500 feet a few seconds after noticing he couldn't resolve them quickly.

Should make the decision at 2000ft really. Above if you are inexperienced. They will teach you on AFF.

@@diegorodriguezbaquero9170 Agree, it's fine to attempt to resolve the issue if you have the time, but after 2+ min when he hasn't made any progress he should have cut away while he still had altitude. Not attempt to resolve for yet another 2 min.

What I learned was: until 2000ft you can try to solve the problem, if you’re at 2000ft and it’s not solved (unless ofc you only have like 2-3 twists left) you go to your emergency procedures. BUT: at 1000ft and lower, you can only pull your reserve and only cut away if the distance between the 2 canopy’s is more then 1 meter. (For anyone wondering: I did static line and I almost have my A-license)

I am in AFF. At my DZ, 2500 feet is the absolute decision point of whether or not your main canopy is okay. If I was this skydiver, I would have tried to kick out until I was close to 2500 feet and then did a cut away.

Was the rate of descent the danger here? Didn’t seem like a huge problem to come down with that twist. Yes, he obviously would not be able to steer clear of trees and power lines with that twist, but seeing as he landed close to…you guest it…trees and power lines with full control after finally clearing the twist, I’m guessing he would have been just fine. Hence the lack of urgency during the twist.

What causes the lines to twist? Was it packed wrong?
@lexirogers55233 жыл бұрын
it could have been but not necessarily. body position during deployment of the parachute can also cause line twists as well as just the way the canopy opens. line twists are actually rather common but are usually easy to manage.

A question for the more experienced skydivers out there: Had he chosen to deploy the emergency canopy, should he have cut away the main first, or rather wait for the 2nd to deploy and then cut ?
@micktrudgett70223 жыл бұрын
The last thing you ever want is 2 canopies out at the same time. E P is look locate 'look locate' peel punch'pull arch. And that decision for me is made at 2000ft.

This is a question for any skydiver... even with one jump... actually...even with just ground training....actually...even someone deciding to take a skydiving course will have found the answer to this themselves before they sign up let alone arrive at a course...

Not from this jumper you aren't. Please don't go to any skydive place that doesn't give some confident ground training and include corrective actions for things like different canopy malfunctions or midair collisions.

Did not seem to put any effort in, and his choice of landing area was very poor,he got lucky there.

Give that boy some Bowling Shoes, he should not be in the air. I did not see a single altitude check the entire time he was fighting that thing.
