It’s really hot in my Garagarium. I might whine too much in this episode. I have two pleas for my audience. I cover movies, shows and some topical ointments, I mean, news events. #vinylcommunity #comicbookart #genewilder #startrektheoriginalseries #vintagepaperbacks #sevensamurai #criterioncollection #darkmatter ‪@rickandrecords‬

My daughter is currently living in LA. I need ask her if her apartment has an air conditioner. I have some librarian friends in Iowa and the library bs is out of control. I also have a friend who is a school librarian and she sent me the list of books they had to remove recently. It is truly frightening! Anyway, I was watching your recent comic video and I noticed how much editing you put into it. I was really impressed with the detail I could see in the comics. I'm not a comic guy, but I was impressed with the illustrations. I don't think I would have got that sensation if you just held up the book. However, I would only do it until it was no longer fun for me. Your editing style is inspiring! Oh, one more thing, regarding Gene Wilder. I saw an interview with Teri Garr once and they asked her something like, "It must have been fun working with Gene Wilder on Young Frankenstein." Her answer surprised me. She said something like, "No. It really wasn't. I'm sorry to say, but it was not fun." I'm paraphrasing, but it made me wonder what the hell happened on set to give her such a negative take on the experience.

Your comments are really insightful. I’m in a hotter part of LA. If she’s anywhere near the ocean or even in that direction, it is often ten degrees cooler. Thank you for the encouragement. I guess Gene Wilder was possibly a manic perfectionist and that could’ve been stressful. It’s only a guess. I should try to read more about it. I grew up on his movies.

Those Trek novels have the best covers, man! I have so many and they are addictive as all get out. I get what you're saying about the editing process. I personally enjoy editing my videos it but it is super time consuming. I like to see the high res image in an edited video. But I think you need to do what makes you happy. If the return isn't worth it to you, make it easier on yourself. Your last comic book video was GREAT! I was literally laughing out loud and I watched it a second time so my wife could see. Bottom line, I'm watching you. You are personable and smart and hilarious. That's what I'm watching. No matter how you present it, that still comes through. It's easy to get discouraged when you put a lot of effort into a video and don't see the numbers you hope for. So...I dunno man, 😁 Sorry, i don't really have an answer for you.

Thanks for the amazing and encouraging comments. I’ll ruminate over them for a bit. I might be using YT to justify some bad habits in my life - spending and collecting too much, don’t want to clean- make a video, etc. I need to think about those issues.

@@garagegeek4863 It's funny you say that, because a lot of us in the comic book KZbin circle are talking about how yes, we are collectors, but are we also just addicted to shopping? Chasing the dragon of purchase and acquisition high. It can be a monster we have to keep in check. Take care of yourself, brother. Be happy.

I like the image and sound clip inserts on your videos. I can see your effort, and I value them higher compared to the average 'show and tell' monologue. I know how frustrating it can be to see them being underappreciated, but if you are having fun doing, keep it coming please :)

I don't know what to tell you about the edits. I like all your videos. I spend a crazy amount of time on my Review Videos. I spend hours scanning the comic pages (my rule of thumb is a different scan per 30 seconds of video) and covers with a flatbed scanner and then edit those in Photoshop (on a PC). Then those images I layer into my videos using Davinci Resolve where I edit the whole video along with B-Roll. All said it does takes quite a few hours to put the entire thing together. And guess what the result is? My review videos tend to get LESS views than all my other content! But I think that's because they are focused on a singular title and most people won't watch a video just for my limited "personal character appeal". So if they don't care about that specific book they probably won't watch. And since I don't choose books by popularity (chasing views)...well I guess I get what I get. But I do enjoy the process and I am grateful for every view. So I suppose the bottom line is only do it if it's enjoyable to you. I will watch either way!

I think your process is even more difficult than mine. I take pictures directly - you can often see the curvature of the page. I’d be so scared to damage a book on a scanner. I’ll think about what you wrote. I’m in a contemplative mood.

A sweaty Garage Geek? Go in, cool off, hydrate. My wife was yelling at the TV when you blanked on my name. She was yelling “Say his name! Say it Cumberbitch!” Thx for that btw. I’ll be called that for weeks now and I’m not even a big fan of his. So, I read this post to her and she says “I never said that!” And that is true, but I thought it would be funny if she did. My sense of humor is broken. Please forgive me. I still think Cumberbitch is hysterical though. Great video.

I like the videos with the editing, but the videos where you just hold up your ipad also work. I like the clips as well since I would probably only listen to half of the music without them (for example, in your other video today, I probably wouldn't have listened to the bands).

My thoughts are that I watch so many music rec vids but there aren’t any samples. I can never keep up with all the recs. If I hear short samples, at least I can get a better idea of the music. I used to put movie clips of the films I reviewed. I stopped because of copyright but I should get back to that.

Editing is torturous for me, which why I don't do it. I do appreciate the sound clips you include but I am too lazy to do it myself, so I can't in good conscience urge you to continue. 😀 I just add links in case anything I talked about sounds interesting.

"Garage Geek: Back to the Roots!" I think you should make the types of video you want to make. I'm not sure it's necessarily the editing that brings in the views as much as the video topics.

@@garagegeek4863 I like your videos and the topics they cover, as you know, so that's why I think you should just make the videos you want to make. Unfortunately, the type of topics that draw in views are controversial and negative ones (like enrage-to-engage stuff). Anyhow, I'm thinking that, if you feel that the editing doesn't add anything to your videos, then maybe it's not necessary, but if you feel it does improve th3 quality of your videos, then it's probably worth it. I know that, if I were to do more editing in my videos than the minimal editing I do now, it would take the fun out of making videos because it would be too time-consuming.

I only watch YT vidoes for two reasons mostly: content and personality. So if you want to edit your videos, or not, I really don't think it makes a difference. I think it's a big time sink. As far as threads, Solitary Ronin Films has been doing some genre films and so far as done three: comedy, musicals, and war. I commented on all three as I remember.
