My favorite thing about my saws is that not one of them ran when I purchased them. My favorite place to buy them is Ebay, advertised as not running from pawn shops. Pawn shops know nothing about saws, so they sell them as not running. Usually it's typical fuel issues. My worst gamble saw had a scored cylinder. I purchased a super clean, used, full motor for it for 50 dollars. Runs like new. Tinman is so right. You can have good saws for little money. Thanks for the video!

nice work Tinman, a great result. it is a beautiful early summer Saturday morning here in Australia. you have inspired me to grab my sons and a dead saw from the shed and see if we can make some noise. :D
@whatnowstinky
@whatnowstinky 2 жыл бұрын
Stihl S10 results, no noise, but it will live again with very minor work (and a huge amount of cleaning). for the first time my 11yo listened to what i said to do and how i suggested to do it. he did a good job and i think learnt a bit. :D my 5yo surprised me by playing "Tinman" with the bits. 😂🤣😂 the bad; absolutely filthy and a bit scruffy looking on the outside. burred up exterior screws etc. has a mud wasps nest in the muffler against the piston, just below the rings which has left a patch of corrosion on the piston and a few fresh light scratches in the bore from being pulled over half a dozen times by some idiot (me). it had sucked in the cylinder-case gasket so prob never ran right. the good; once the grot is removed inside the covers, the outside of the cylinder etc look really really good. very minimal wear. it has never thrown a chain etc. the only noticeable wear is on the sprocket. it cannot have more than a dozen tanks through it. i am guessing it never ran right from new, due to the gasket being sucked into the left transfer. the owner tried plenty of times to sort out the problem but never pulled the cylinder, so missed it. the majority of the wear looks to be from kicking around in a shed for over 40 years. the piston is a bit of a worry but has really long skirt i think the corrosion can be removed without effecting the wear surface on the piston. other than that it should clean up really well.

Love your videos. If I wasn't in Hampshire (the English one!) I'd come and see you! Got a 266 XP that I cooked and had to put a new pot and cylinder on. It was AM part as my local dealer said OEM were no longer available. Fitted it all fine but still won't start. Spark seems fine (but nothing to compare it with) and compression likewise (not don't have a tester) so I'm scratching my head. Defo want to get it going again as it's a great saw. I'll get it tested for pressure somehow and then take it from there.... I'll also watch loads of your videos for inspiration!!

Nice video! If you enjoy tinkering, these old saws are proven performers. If you can find one cheap and fix it yourself with proper maintenance it will keep you cutting for a long time, even at the professional level. At a fraction of the price of a new pro saw. Thanks for inspiring others to keep these old workhorses alive. 👍

I got my 266XP for free off of Craigslist Portland Oregon! I called this guy about a wood stove he was giving away for free. I told him that I needed a smaller stove because I had to many chainsaws and was running out of room! He asked me if I would like four more chainsaws for free! He said that his Grandpa and his Dad had saved them because there was something special about all four of them but didn't know what that was that made them so special! They didn't run and had never got around to figuring out what was wrong with them and he was moving and didn't have room in his Uhaul to take them with. I got so damned excited about the saws that I didn't pay attention to the speed limit and acquired a $260:00 dollar ticket on my way to picking them up! There was a 266xp from Tomos Slavaina Yugoslavia, A 1967 Lombard Comango, A Stihl 030AV not sold in the United States in awesome condition! And a John Deere/Echo 510EVL Koritz. And all were simple fixes! The 266xp is factory ported and and is a bad mofo! Every guy that has heard it run asked the same question! How much you selling it to me for? I explain to them that you can't just go down to your local saw shop and purchase another one! I think it is so fun to put the boots to all of the expensive plastic pieces of shit that the EPA has molested and the saw was manufactured in 1986🤣

That what we did check if rings was worn on a motor or if it was a possible valve issue was add oil cylinder. Maybe it be the same with saw also. If ring or cylinder worn do a test. Of course that saw doesn't have vavles.

Hi Tinman. First time commenting just wanted to let you know that on a KS cylinder that 50 that you saw doesn't mean its 50mm. Sitting here watching the video I happened to have the jug off of my 61 on the table next to me and checked it. It is a KS and the number on it starts with 50 also it appears to be a part number and it is definitely 48mm. I am really enjoying the channel.

I put a tag on my project saws with the serial number on it. The date it was last run and what issues the saws have. I have a file folder for every saw and piece of equipment I own containing a maintenance and repair/build record with record for were I sourced parts from. Receipts, build ideas, parts list and repair manual. When the season is right I can put a project in the shop pull the folder and get to work. It is time well spent especially when alot of projects seem to follow you home.

It be interesting get a saw like this. And do minum and see how long it will last for till it needs some tlc and complete rebuild. What the lowest build cost keep a turd saw going. That or a true factory complete saw. Just like a factory barn find car that all original.

A hippy died, and went striate to hell. The dude with the pitch fork told him I have been expecting you. Since I like you, I will give you three choices on how you will spend eternity down hear. So, the hippy looked in door #1 and saw dudes’ bare foot on hot colas of fire. Then he looked into door #2 and saw dudes laying on beads of nails with Elephants walking on them. Last choice door #3 he saw dudes standing in excrement up to there necks with cups of tea. Yup I will do it this way. He jumps right on in and gets his tea when all of the sudden the horn blew. And the voice said tea break is over back on your heads.
