Depends what generation you ask, If you grew up in the UK for the original series, they refer to it as "Doctor Who" and "being Doctor Who". If you're really into the series you know that its "The Doctor". Its almost the same as when I say Frankenstein you might think of the monster but in reality Frankenstein was the doctor that created the monster.
